USE IT OR LOSE IT The Great British Pub condundrum. Why are pubs closing everywhere when everyone wants a GREAT Local pub they can call THEIR PUB? WHY, when there's evidence ALL over the UK that communities WANT to have a GREAT Local Pub they can call THEIR Local does the pub sector 'market' not respond to the ever burgeoning demand there is for great pubs? WHY does the trope 'if you wanted it you should have used it' hold space in so many people's mind? https://lnkd.in/eqAXfsAp

As we mark the conclusion of Dry January, we’d like to share an initiative we are launching to help locals through the current hospitality crisis: ‘Support an Independent Pub Day’, which will take place on Saturday 10 February. Dry January once again occurred during an already precarious situation for independent pubs. 43.6% of wet-led pubs, bars and nightclubs have disappeared over the last 20 years. This trend is even more concerning for independent businesses. With sky-rocketing operating costs, the only way these treasured establishments can survive is with high footfall and customers visiting to spend money, even more so during the quietest period of the year. This is why we have decided to help and invite all pub lovers to celebrate independent pubs and visit locals in their area on Saturday 10 February, to show love and support to these cherished community centres that help millions of Britons fight loneliness and enjoy quality social time. This special day will aim to raise awareness on the disappearance of these much-loved bastions of British culture which are part of our DNA. We hope that this patronage will not only see the cash tills ringing to support businesses after the harrowing month of Dry January but also hopefully inspire more people to visit independent pubs in their area for food, drink, entertainment and company. The term ‘Use it or lose it’ has never been more pertinent! If you can, spread the word with your friends, block Saturday 10 February in your calendars and visit local independent pubs in your droves. You know what to do… #supportindependentpubs CityStack

The Labour party conference is in full swing, and doubtless there have been many fringe meetings and get-togethers, some in pubs and bars. But, comrades, pubs are for life and not just for conference, and there are steps you can take to help ensure that they not only survive but thrive #pubs #pubsnews #beer #beernews #budget2024

More than 65 parties express interest in Antic pub portfolio: More than 65 parties have expressed an interest in the 13-strong portfolio of London pubs operated by Antic, which was placed into administration last month. Propel revealed that Steve Absolom and Will Wright, of Interpath Advisory, were appointed joint administrators to Elflock, Babel Silk, Brocade and De Gremio on 12 July 2024. Collectively, the companies operate 13 pubs and bars across south and east London, including: The Antelope SW17, Balham Bowls Club SW12, Clapton Hart E5, Gremio de Brixton SW2, Graveney & Meadow SW17, Dogstar SW9, Tooting Tram & Social SW17, Red Lion E11, and Coopers SE19. Several of the sites had struggled with legacy liabilities resulting from the pandemic. Propel understands that there have been expressions of interest from more than 65 parties since it was revealed that administrators had been appointed, and that these include some of the “biggest operators in the market”. It is understood that trading in the pubs, which are being operated with support from specialist trading agents at Licensed Solutions, has been strong, and that further competition for the sites is expected when they are officially launched to the market in the coming days.

One of the best parts of being a DPR specialist is getting to use data to tell stories that actually mean something. Recently, I had the chance to work with Togather on a story that’s all about preserving something so many people love—the Great British pub. We crunched the numbers and found something worrying: at the current rate of closures, UK pubs could drop to fewer than 1,000 in just 50 years—by 2074. To make this issue resonate, we didn’t just want to throw numbers at people. We worked to create a story that could connect with readers on a real level. Pubs aren’t just places to drink—they’re gathering spots, culture hubs, and, let’s be honest, they’re where people celebrate and connect. So, we started the outreach to the media to shine a spotlight on this data, helping bring this message to a national stage. The project highlighted how pubs will need to shift their approach to stay relevant—offering live music, pop-ups, and creative experiences that give people more reasons to show up. Sharing these insights wasn’t just about driving awareness; it was about sparking ideas on how pubs can adapt and thrive in today’s world. You can find the full story here: https://lnkd.in/dCxfRtCW
Number of pubs may reach ‘critically low’ levels with less than 1,000 set to stay

🍕⚽️ The Debate: Supporting Local Pubs vs. Staying Home for the #Euros with Co-op 🏠🍺 Recently, Co-op supermarkets have faced backlash for their campaign encouraging people to "stay at home and watch the Euros with a beer and pizza." While the convenience of enjoying the game from home is appealing, this has sparked a conversation about the importance of supporting our local #pubs. #Pubs have long been the heart of our communities, offering a vibrant atmosphere to watch matches, connect with friends, and support local businesses. While Co-op’s campaign highlights a cozy night in, let's not forget the unique experience of watching football at a pub. The camaraderie, the cheers, and the collective celebration create memories that a home setup simply can't replicate. So, where will you be for the next match? Whether at home with a Co-op pizza or cheering at your local #pub, let's aim to support our communities in the best way we can. 🏟️🍻 #SupportLocal #Euros2024 #Community #LocalPubs #Coop #FootballFans #HospitalityIndustry

Not the best report to be reading showing such an increase in closures in 2023 in comparison to the previous 2 years. My question is have we been able to keep the people who have lost their jobs in the industry or have they left due to uncertainties?
