Electrician 1st. But also... Co-host of The Renewables Podcast and Apprentice 121 podcast. Owner of Power Sonic Ltd, nationwide solar PV and Battery storage installers. Won some awards....
Your vibe attracts your tribe I think is the saying.... I am blessed to have such incredible team members and professional people in my/our business. They are also my sons, so regardless of the above they are stuck with me 🤣 . Here building up some kit to help for no reason other than they want to. In the day job they are the definition of professional electricians. Its funny because some will self proclaim "professional engineers" and present themselves as better than others. These lads never ever do that. They simply get on with it, I wish I was more like them sometimes! I would much rather learn from and with them than any expert on the internet! Sometimes its easy to lose sight of the good people in this industry. When we see the daily posts of awful solar, EV and general electrical work. When I hear most days about horrendous experiences learners have with training providers who are looking to sell ever more short courses. The epidemic of business growth courses and books selling out industry on over inflated ego to self serve. It can become depressing if we let it! Over the last 4 years I have had to deal with what I term the pool of poison. Its a small pool of individuals who ironically all appear in the same communities/media outlets... Some trying to stop funding that helps us do what we do, some making very personal insults again with little self awareness of themselves. What I have realised is many in industry have observed what has gone on and have a very dim view of those people. Far from the self appointed terms of "professional engineers", much the opposite. However in the next few weeks I have Apprentice 121 activities going into overdrive. Helping to bring together some powerhouses of industry to hopefully help towards tackling a massive issue in the trade. It has been very humbling to see people coming forward happy to join in with that and help. Events with several manufacturers aimed squarely at supporting apprentice and trainees. Attending skills events and helping directly with AM2 preparation and funding for several trainees/apprentices. I am only human and sometimes the pool of poison gets far to much of my thoughts and attention. Perhaps even in this post tbh. However the huge majority of people in this wonderful industry both online and in the real world are immense just like these two lads in the pictures. My vibe maybe did attract the right people towards us and I am more grateful for that every single day. Worth remembering and reminding ourselves of I think. #apprentice121 #electrician #teamsparks

To: My fellow HVACR Apprentices, HVAC Thermostat Diagnostics: (Learning the Lingo) Initial Fan Test: Engage the fan by setting the control to ‘manual’ mode. This checks for fan operability. Control Voltage Inspection: If the fan remains inactive, verify the presence of control voltage, which is crucial for thermostat functionality. Manual Circuit Testing: Should the fan function in manual mode but fail to initiate heating or cooling cycles, detach the thermostat from its mounting plate. Employ a non-conductive jumper to bridge the R (power) terminal to the G (fan) terminal, initiating fan operation. For heating activation, bridge R to W (heat). For cooling, bridge R to Y (cooling). Successful system response indicates a faulty thermostat. Single-Circuit Caution: Isolate tests to individual circuits due to the singular power feed to the thermostat. Complex Thermostat Handling: Thermostats with auxiliary functions (e.g., clocks, LEDs) may have a complete circuit wired. Exercise caution to avoid simultaneous heating and cooling engagement. Safety Compliance: Conduct circuit bridging under expert oversight only. Post-testing: Allow a five-minute decompression period for the AC system before reactivation, unless equipped with a compressor hard-start kit. The End.
