Delivering an SOW is not just about fulfilling a Human Resources opportunity, it's about making an impact. Recently, I had the privilege of teaching Quantico spouses how to be the best-prepared candidates for their upcoming job fair. Each attendee had their unique concerns, from interview tips, to getting overlooked because of their military spouse status(pcs risks) to re-entering the workforce after years of staying home. However, the most rewarding moment was when the contracted photographer turned into a participant, taking notes and soaking up the information. It's not about us as trainers, career coaches, or subject matter experts, but about our clients. Evaluating the content delivery is crucial, and seeing nonverbals from the participants and the Family Readiness Manager, priceless. I look forward to future opportunities to make a difference. Business Facilities magazine highlighted Greenville, NC in a workforce focus article. With work-life balance an ongoing concern, many communities and companies are taking action to support their workforce. An award-winning partnership set a new record last year as 1,500 jobseekers attended the fourth annual “Better Skills, Better Jobs” career fair. The event, a partnership between nonprofits, economic development organizations, and educational institutions, attracted high school student and adult jobseekers throughout Pitt County and surrounding areas. Yesterday, more than 2k students from Conestoga College, University of Waterloo, University of Waterloo, and University of Guelph; and over 100 participating organizations came for the Partnerships for Employment Job Fair! Huge shoutout to the committee, especially Kriskyn Cabrera, Alice Michaud and Melissa McNown-Smith —you guys are rockstars! It was also nice to meet and chat with other universities! After speaking with some employers, one key takeaway for students attending job fairs is the importance of research. Before approaching a company, take the time to learn about them. This not only helps you stand out but also shows your enthusiasm and preparedness. Avoid generic questions like, “What do you do?” or “What jobs do you have?”—these can leave a negative impression. Instead, ask specific, informed questions that demonstrate your genuine interest in the company and the opportunities they offer.

The job market today is so unpredictable that when the hiring process is straightforward, people often think it's too good to be true. ❌ Just a month ago, I traveled to the Dartmouth Hitchcock facilities in New Hampshire, to help run a job fair for our entry-level patient access positions. A candidate came by to learn about our roles. We interviewed her on the spot and offered her a job right away. She was stunned because, with a gap in her employment, she expected a long, drawn-out process. She started last week and is doing great. This should be the norm. 👏 It's concerning that people expect hiring processes to involve unnecessary hoops and mind games. We know what we’re looking for, so why prolong it? It’s been nearly two years since Joe Presley, a former Bosma client, began his role as an operations support technician with the FBI. His journey started almost three years ago at a Bosma-hosted reverse job fair, where he met FBI Administrative Officer Tom White and learned about job opportunities at the agency. Motivated by this connection, Joe applied for a position and underwent seven months of rigorous interviews and background checks. Today, he’s thriving in his new career.
