Being new to the Amsterdam business community, I noticed a common trend among local eateries. Many restaurants do not collect customer data for re-targeting purposes, a strategy also not prevalent in South Africa. Recently, I pitched a gamification strategy to a small restaurant on the verge of relocating (My first gig in Amsterdam). The goal was simple: "help us sell as much stock as possible before the move". We launched "Operation Increase Bums in Seats" with a scratch-and-win game, offering discounts in exchange for contact details. In 2.5 weeks, 8 out of 70 participants redeemed their prizes, showcasing an 11.4% redemption rate at the time of closing. While there's plenty of room for improvement, the campaign provided valuable insights for future strategies, which included 70 customers who can be invited to the new premises. The truth serum: I ask myself, was this a successful campaign? It was not successful from a business standpoint. Not meeting monetary expectations (bummer), the campaign saw the owner and his girlfriend becoming really good friends of my wife and I, showcasing success beyond financial gains. With Las Vegas known as the "Entertainment Capital of the World", it's safe to say that tourism is a large part of Nevada's economy. Nevada statute now recognizes the significant economic potential of the legal cannabis industry yet creates barriers for the industry to reach these potential customers. To reduce friction between these two economic drivers, which solution would you like to see in Sin City? 🏨 Non-Residential Deliveries 🏨 Retail cannabis sales facilities can only deliver to residential addresses, which means no hotels or event venues, and DEFINITELY no casinos. Many retailers also require that the address on the customer's photo ID match that of the delivery address. Add this to the fact that retailers have to maintain a certain distance from gaming licenses; it's no wonder more visitors opt to bring their green from home to save some green on ride shares off the Strip. OR 🎪 Sales at Public Events 🎪 After warming up to the idea of providing tourists with a place to LEGALLY consume, legislators and regulators are exploring ways to create a regulated channel for consumption at public events. While a bill for mobile licenses failed last session, the CCB solicited industry input on the creation of Regulation 16 based on a 2022 petition to allow for temporary cannabis events... if they have a minimum of 10k attendees each day. In this article in Macao News, I shared my view that a comprehensive strategic plan needs to be developed with whole government, Integrated Resort Operator, MSME and public stakeholder involvement in order remain competitive, to fully support and reach the desired goals of "One Country, Two Systems", "1+4" reasonable diversification, reduced dependence on gaming and revitalisation in Macau. Current plans need to be fine tuned and SMART goals set, in order to achieve success and remain ahead of regional competitors.
