Chief Executive, Association of Scotland's Self-Caterers * CEO of the Year * Outstanding Contribution to Tourism * Director, Scottish Agritourism * Scottish Tourism Alliance Policy Group
Fiona Campbell, CEO of the Association of Scotland’s Self-Caterers, said: “The ASSC remains in dialogue with both national and local government in order to establish a fair, legal and proportionate regulatory framework. In the spirit of constructive engagement, we presented legally robust proposals to Edinburgh Council to address specific challenges in light of the recent Judicial Review, which we believe would be a win-win scenario for both parties. "Let us be clear: the industry wants to be regulated and for us to move forward together. We believe the Council has the tools to effectively regulate short-term lets, while at the same protecting the small number of professional operators who are so vital to meeting the accommodation needs of this city. "Without meaningful changes to provide legitimate businesses the clarity and assurance they desperately need, the economic and cultural consequences loom large. This includes the continued viability of our world-leading Festivals, the possibility of more lost jobs and livelihoods, as well as the city’s reputation as a place to visit and do business.” https://lnkd.in/evtgzz4X

Check out Commissioner Bélanger in yesterday's📰#TheLobbyMonitor📰 as she reflects on her 7-year term with the Office of the Commissioner of Lobbying | Commissariat au lobbying 🔍 Looking ahead, she shared: "I am hoping to be able to issue new interpretation bulletins on how we apply the act, and the most important one will likely be [to explain] the ‘significant part of duties.’ Stay tuned.” Other changes that she hopes to see include: “I think the biggest change is the threshold requirement for organizations and corporations. Right now, the employees together need to meet a ‘significant part of duty threshold.’ In my view, it should be ‘registration by default’ with some very limited and specific exemptions.” 📅Regarding the requirement for lobbyists to register only pre-scheduled meetings, she added: “I think [for] a conversation that is occurring with our senior officials in government, there should be transparency about those irrespective of whether or not that particular conversation was arranged in advance.” 🔗 For more details, check out the full article here: ⬇️⬇️⬇️ https://lnkd.in/eUTMM5iZ
