Last week, a company announced they had won a public sector contract to supply hand held devices to front line ambulance staff. However the title of their formal announcement said they were providing them to ‘paramedics’. But not everyone who wears that green uniform and will use the hand held device is a paramedic. They may be an emergency medical technician, emergency care assistant, a military co-responder, nurse, a student etc. Excluding them - on purpose or not - creates a divide, and can stir feelings of not being worthy. And that creates mis-trust, detachment and resistance. We need to get it right from the start… we must make sure we're using the right words and language when communicating change so that we don't exclude anyone. It’s not fair, and it will make sure we minimise resistance and get the right support and engagement from the start. #changecommunications #changeresistance #communicatingchange #changeinthepublicsector #changemanagement

Automated external defibrillators are a must have on ships. Up to 450,000 people die each year in the United States due to cardiac arrest. 9/10 people who experience cardiac arrest die outside of hospital within minutes without receiving any medical or first aid assistance. This means it could easily happen to a crew member onboard a vessel. The use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) has shown a significant increase in survival rates of patients by giving them a greater chance of making it to the hospital to receive the emergency medical care they desperately need. However, at present, there is no statutory requirement under international or national legislation for ships to carry defibrillators. Learn more about the use of AEDs on vessels as Loss Prevention Officer, Emma Forbes-Gearey MSC updates us in her latest article, : https://lnkd.in/exf9dj77 She discusses more about this vital topic as well as West’s position. #West #AEDs #healthsafety
