ISA - Intelligent Speed Assistance, a technology that alerts drivers when speeding, may be closer than you think!
ISA is extremely customizable. It ranges from giving audible or tactile warnings to downright preventing the driver to speed.
Some progressive fleets will restrict vehicles from going more than 5 mph over the speed limit, but have a "boost" button for merging onto highways. Alternatively, the system may merely warn a driver and allow the speeding, but notify a supervisor electronically.
Europe is only a month away from requiring the technology in every new vehicle, providing drivers with audible or other warnings. The law allows for the system to be turned off, but only when the vehicle is stationary - and the driver must dive into the menu to disable it...and that for every single trip.
Overrreach? Certainly not, speeding and endangering others is not a right. If we can reduce the speeding on our public roadways, everyone has a better chance of making it home safely.
Unpopular? This detailed survey shows drivers are surprisingly supportive, and not just when insurance incentives come play (though that is admittedly popular).
“These findings are exciting because they suggest American drivers are willing to change how they drive to make our roads safer,” IIHS President David Harkey said.
