It's been a wildly unsettled week. And it's only Thursday. When I wake up feeling as angsty as I did today, the 1st thing I do is get outside and start moving. I'm fortunate to be able to walk dogs, and that's a sanity saver. Any movement you can make happen to clear your head and make your systems function is the right kind of movement. And deep breathing, too! But if you've followed me at all, you already know that movement is my #1 go-to when I'm overstressed. And being around trees gives me a chance to tell them of my struggles. And the dog is a fine listener, as well. Today our morning conversation centered around the 4th of July Holiday. It's as American as apple pie, fireworks, diversity, immigration, and personal freedoms. From 1775 to 1783, the American colonies fought and died for independence from The British Crown. The Monarchy. The Rule of King George III, to be specific. And here, exactly 248 years later, that independence from tyranny appears to be in question in the US. The civils rights and freedoms of some Americans have been stripped. It seems the collective anxiety has risen as I stop to chat with neighbors. The Lost Cause narrative, which romanticized the Confederacy and portrayed the Civil War as a fight for states' rights rather than slavery, gained traction during this period. This narrative influenced how Confederate figures like Lee were remembered. However, the holiday remains a source of controversy due to its historical and symbolic significance. The holiday initially began in 1931 as separate observances for the birthdays of Jefferson Davis (June 3rd) and Robert E. Lee (January 19th). Confederate Heroes' Day is a complex and controversial holiday with a deep-rooted history. As the United States continues to grapple with its legacy of slavery and racial injustice, the debate over Confederate commemorations is likely to continue. WHY IS MISSISSIPPI COMMITTING ECONOMIC SUICIDE? Mississippi is the poorest state in America. Investment is pouring into all southern states except Mississippi. Mississippi is missing out on the current southern economic boom. This is because the Mississippi government has made it clear that they prefer making enemies over friends. The Civil War was the worst war in U.S. history. 800,000 Americans died in a war started by the South to destroy the United States in order to perpetuate slavery forever. The South lost and all the States (except Mississippi) gotten past this unfortunate history. Most States celebrate Juneteenth as the end of slavery in America. Not Mississippi. In Mississippi 3 paid state holidays are: Confederate Memorial Day, The birthday of Jefferson Davis and Robert E. Lee day. April is Confederate Heritage Month.😖 By treating traitors and villains as heroes and celebrating a war they lost, Mississippi is effectively giving the finger to America and ensuring Mississippi will remain the poorest and least educated state.
