This week is #LondonRiversWeek. As the UK’s largest water and wastewater company, it’s our job to take care of the waterways in our capital city. We’re investing £885 million over the next 5 years to restore London’s river health for good. This is all part of our bigger commitment to invest £13.4 billion in our sewer network by 2040. London’s biggest remaining source of river pollution is storm overflows. Designed in the Victorian era, our combined sewers collect a mix of rainwater and waste, which can spill over into rivers during heavy rain. As our population keeps growing, the pressure on this system is growing – even light rain can lead to a storm overflow. That’s why it’s so important we act now. Great news for Exmoor National Park! Over £450,000 is being invested in sewer revitalisation to protect this beautiful landscape straddling Somerset and Devon. Work is wrapping up to renovate the local sewer network to prevent pollution and flooding, using innovative 'no-dig' techniques for a quicker, less disruptive process. ✨ The upgraded pipes will ensure a reliable service and protected environment for years to come. We’re planning to invest nearly £450 million between 2025 and 2030 to improve storm overflows across the region and progressively eliminate the discharge of untreated sewage into rivers and the sea.
