4 Trends in Sustainable Site Design: By Laci Budd, CPSM Technical Contributor: Mike Makris, P.E. Sustainable site design is a hot topic in the AEC industry. As Civil Engineers, Landscape Architects, and Planners, we are challenged to integrate conservation into site design, preserving the natural features of the land. We must also think about ways to improve design to promote a […]

Timber, while offering numerous environmental and design benefits, poses unique challenges when it comes to fire safety. Its combustible nature necessitates the implementation of rigorous fire prevention and mitigation strategies. Therefore, understanding the behaviour of timber under fire conditions and employing fire-resistant methods is important if architects, engineers, and builders must create structures using timber. This article offers guidance and recommendations on the design of timber buildings with respect to fire safety in timber buildings #structuralengineer #civilengineer #timberbuildings #timberframes #firesafety #firedesign #civilconstruction Fire Safety in Modern Timber Buildings https://lnkd.in/dMjD_FFm

Why do 85% of buildings go over budget? This diagram, based on a graphic produced by the American Institute of Architects, shows the overall life cycle costs of a building. Design and construction amounts to a minuscule 1-2%, yet largely determines the rest of the cost associated with the life of the building. From energy consumption to maintenance, management, income generated, ROI, etc. It is, however, tempting to save on design and construction and this is one of the main reasons 85% of buildings go over budget. It again comes down to not seeing where the value of a project lies and focusing solely on price. How to prevent this? Plan better. Use a clear process. Here's one: https://lnkd.in/dEeeWzmC
