Today, on Menopause awareness day, I would just like to shed light on a topic that so often remains in the shadows: navigating the workplace during peri-menopause. This transition to menopause can be a complex journey and is not discussed as much. Physically and emotionally, it is a time of transformation that has impacted my productivity, well-being and motivation at times, particularly as it took some time for me to get to an accurate diagnosis. For so long I was being treated for gout and aches and pains in random places and became increasingly worried when treatments for these conditions appeared to be unsuccessful. My ability to manage this time in my life has increased significantly now that I have an accurate diagnosis of peri-menopause and I am keen to encourage women to talk about symptoms and share experiences and strategies. By fostering understanding and empathy we can create a supportive environment that helps everyone thrive. I am really fortunate that I get to deliver in some amazing hotels and locations across the country, indeed, around the world. I always try to find accommodation that provides access to a swimming pool. Swimming has always been a love of mine and I have found that it really helps me relax; mind, body and soul, and it aids good sleep and reduces cramps. I have recently discovered the utter joy of cold-water swimming and wholeheartedly advocate this activity for both the physical and mental advantages it offers. I also now try to book regular massages when working away to help with the long commutes that I endure on a weekly basis. These have really started to help with the aches and pains and helped to keep my mind relaxed. Last week I got to work with these amazing people. It was quite a challenging week personally, hot flushes and difficulty with sleeping could have interrupted my work schedule. However, now that I know what is happening, and I recognise the signs, I can take measures to ensure that I can remain positive, motivated, and confident that I can provide a first-class experience for my clients. I’m keen to learn what strategies you may have to support the symptoms of menopause or peri-menopause. Let’s share and possibly provide an idea that helps someone else. #WellnessJournet #PeriMenopause #WomenInTheWorkplace #MentalHealthAtWork
