#MemeMonday The EQ setting every voice actor must master! Yes, there is a joke here. This is a flat EQ curve- meaning don't do anything. But why? Let's talk about it- particularly from my POV as a commercial mixer that also handles voice casting. Adding EQ to your Auditions? Your audition has to accurately reflect how you sound coming down the line for remote sessions. If you process your sound with tools that don't work in real-time, this would be false advertising. But that's only part of the equation. Most voice actors I encounter are quick to jump to presets or fiddle with settings while listening at home in their headphones to get a sound that they find pleasing. Welcome to ✨ 'TRIX&TIPS TUESDAY✨ , where I give some of my best pointers for the voice over business to newbies and veterans alike. 'Trix&Tip #8: Send and forget You know this! This is a tried and tested adage of our job as voice over artists, and it's an important one to master for your own wellbeing and persistence. When it comes to auditioning, stage and screen actors have it very tough. They land the audition that has been fought for by their agent, they learn the sides, they plan their day around the audition, psych themselves up all the way there, walk into a room full of other hopefuls all going for the same role, and then they stand in front of the casting panel and pour their heart out as best they can. Usually, they only get one shot at it, and if they mess up, they walk away feeling dejected. And repeat, time and time again. No wonder they get so disheartened! But voice actors? Although the odds are still against us in the same way, we have a lot more cognitive dissonance on our side. We can find most of our auditions ourselves, we don't have to learn the words off by heart, we're in the comfort of our own home, there's no one staring at us making us shake with nerves, and we can keep doing it over and over until we submit a take we're really proud of. And then... we move onto the next! Bliss. So try to harness the power of this advantage by sending, and then forgetting. Don’t put any hope into an audition, don't get hung up on your booking ratio, just keep plodding on because one day you'll land that gig you really enjoyed auditioning for. Just attended a mixer hosted by #GentryStanley at The Bay View Boathouse SF. The event was attended by a lot of creative people from the gaming industry and beyond. I had some interesting conversations with attendees from Russia and Germany, and we even delved into spirituality. No matter what your creative idea or skill may be, collaboration is key to bringing your project to life. The creative arts industry is very much team-oriented, and it takes a lot to put that team together. Unfortunately, some areas of the industry have been struggling, acting jobs,film. television production,music &band venues, etc.especially in the last 5years. We need more of these, get togethers and mixers, so that we can meet creative people and help us in our collaboration to make whatever are dreams are come true. also, to meet people that may inspire other projects and how we can all work to together to make your dreams come true. The last several years, the pandemic is very devastating to the entertainment industry at all areas, especially performance art which includes music, venues, bands, comedy venues,film MakingTV, and movies,etc. We even need more of these mixtures to help promote projects and also help by local Bay Area government cities, counties, etc lincentives to film here. Because many other areas USA’Canada have huge to incentives so productions are going there & people that work on them so they can get work. Let’s hope local government cities counties, etc.& Film commissions also attract creative artist to SFBay area &Sacramento.. I have a fantasy romance, screenplay DESTINY and the main location is in San Francisco Bay area. It would be nice to actually shoot it here instead of just shooting exteriors and actually filming somewhere else. There has been some action happening. I was recently Cast in a independent feature film. Had a wonderful time just haven’t been having that many Thanks again for the mixer Gentry Stanley Maybe we can work together on one whatever else we may can collaborate on. If you're creating a commercial, music is important! There are two lessons in this video: 1) If you're a commercial producer, it's valuable to have the music ready BEFORE the voice actor records the voiceover - it's much easier to alter the acting to match the feel of the music, than it is to find the perfect music to match the VO. 2) If you're a voice actor, it's useful to practice with different types of music!
