Why Not Just Check? Today, I'm back at Southampton donating platelets—something very close to my heart. Both my aunts, Polly and Liz, were diagnosed with cancer when I was a child. As a child, you feel quite helpless, and not much changes as you get older, except realizing how much more helpless you can feel. But when I discovered I was part of the lucky few who are #GoldBlooded, I was eager to donate as regularly as possible. My blood type is AB+, which means only about 1 in 50 of us have this type. Combine that with the fact that there are only 14,000 platelet donors out of 1.4 million blood donors, and you see the low probability... It all starts with checking! If just one person reads this and checks if they can donate, it will be worth it. A single platelet donation can save the lives of 3 adults or 12 children. I'm fortunate that, due to my size, I can donate a triple each time. If you donate blood, or even if you don’t yet, why not see if you have the golden kind? https://lnkd.in/dJYpkVK A quick shoutout to my wife Laura! —thank you for allowing me the time to do this! 💪💪 NHS Blood and Transplant #Platelets #PlateletDonation #NHS #GoldenBlood #Donate #BeatCancer #MakeYourStoryMatter #WhyNotJustCheck

1 in 4 people will need a blood transfusion at some point in their lives. It’s a powerful reminder of how crucial blood donations are to our healthcare system. Every day, 5,000 blood donations are needed in the UK to support patients undergoing surgeries, receiving cancer treatments, or dealing with emergencies. Around 30% of all blood donations go to people battling cancer, while the rest support those in need of urgent medical care. Recently, I donated blood, and it was a reminder of just how easy and impactful this act can be. By taking 30 minutes of my time, I had the chance to help others in ways that can truly save lives. Blood can’t be manufactured—it can only come from generous donors. Without it, our healthcare system would face severe challenges. If you’ve ever thought about donating, here’s what you need to know: 🩸You must be 17 to 66 years old (or over 70 if you’ve donated in the past two years). 🩸You need to weigh at least 50 kg. 🩸Make sure you feel healthy and well on the day of your donation. 🩸Recent travel, tattoos, or illness may require a short waiting period. A single blood donation can save up to three lives, and with blood only lasting 35 days (for red blood cells), regular donations are essential. It’s a small commitment that makes a big difference. #GiveBlood #SaveLives #Healthcare #BloodDonation #NHS

Some of the most impactful gifts can be the ones that help pay bills. Bills like rent, groceries, electricity and water bills and filling up the car with gas can mean more to a struggling family than any other gift. Helping breast cancer patients during this stressful time of year can greatly improve their chances of completing their treatments free of financial ruin. We can’t wrap these things up, but we can gift them. No one should have to choose between medication and rent. If you can, donate today to The Breast Cancer Support Fund. Every donation, large and small, has an impact. https://lnkd.in/dUnfbrr THE TRUTH about breast cancer is the financial burden can be just as devastating as the physical and emotional impact. That's why we provide support to breast cancer patients facing a financial crisis or those living in poverty. 🩸 Donate Blood, Save Lives! 🩸 Today, I took a small step that can make a big difference – I donated blood. 🏥💉 Blood donation is a simple, yet powerful act of kindness that can save lives. Every donation can help up to three people in need, whether they’re undergoing surgery, battling cancer, or recovering from an accident. Here are a few reasons why you should consider donating blood: It saves lives: Your donation can be the difference between life and death for someone in need. It’s quick and easy: The entire process takes about an hour, and the actual donation only takes 10-15 minutes. It’s safe: Blood donation is a safe and regulated process, with all equipment being sterile and used only once. You get a health check-up: Donors receive a mini health check-up, including blood pressure, hemoglobin levels, and more. If you’re eligible, I encourage you to find your nearest blood donation center and make an appointment. Together, we can make a significant impact on our community and beyond. Let’s roll up our sleeves and give the gift of life! 💪❤️ #BloodDonation #SaveLives #GiveBlood #CommunitySupport

Please Consider Donating Blood Yesterday was the first time I have donated blood, only took a “few” years! Donating blood is a simple act that can save lives. Every donation can save up to three lives. If I understood the statistics yesterday, 1 in 3 people will need blood during their lifetime, whereas only 1 in 30 people will donate. Blood is essential for surgeries, cancer treatments, chronic illnesses, and traumatic injuries. Donating blood can have health benefits for the donor as well, helping to reduce harmful iron stores, lower the risk of cancer, and improve cardiovascular health. Plus, it’s a great way to get a mini health check-up, as your blood pressure, haemoglobin levels, and overall health are assessed before donation. The blood donation process is straightforward and takes less than an hour from start to finish. The actual blood draw only takes about 10 minutes. Plus, you get to enjoy some refreshments afterwards including party pies and pasties! Please consider donating if you can. #lifeblood

Gift giving is an art, but sometimes the best gifts are intangible. For your next celebration, in lieu of picture frames, flowers, gift certificates, or bottles of wine, why not encourage friends and family to make a donation to Breast Cancer Alliance in your honor? BCA can set up a custom donation page, with the images and language you choose for a birthday, anniversary, bar or bat mitzvah, wedding or other milestone celebration. We send you the link, you share it with friends, and the best gift is given: the gift of health.
