It is always fantastic working with growth-minded, accomplished business leaders representing, in this instance, biopharma and technology, food services, social and people services, construction, broadcasting and tech, airport IT services management, care homes, plastics and dye industries across East Anglia. I walk away richer from each workshop due to the engagement drawn from the diversity and depth of knowledge. 🔑 Key takeaways from our session: 1. I travel home from the Inner Development Goal conference in Stockholm filled with inspiration, ideas and hope. A lot of wise things were said by great speakers. Even Rilke was quoted. My main take-away is that it is obvious that so many people and organisations are now adopting the notion of inner development as crucial for green transformation. The US White House Leadership Programme adopts it and so does UN Climate Change Global Innovation Hub. I meet many more entrepreneurs this year who has developed exciting tools and models based on the IDGs - like Ella Stadler-Stuart at Rflect. This I take as a promising indicator! We can all use the IDG Framework and put it to use in our own field of expertise – as we do with the IPA - Innovation Portfolio Approach – yet ensure that the efforts are connected. https://lnkd.in/dNzySVHe

Great insights on leadership

The transition from functional expert to enterprise leader is one of the great challenges for any life science founder. Michael Watkins, Professor of Leadership and Organisation Change at IMD and author of the pioneering book "The First 90 Days", wrote a brilliant article in Harvard Business Review about the Seven Seismic Shifts involved in the transition to leading an enterprise; Specialist to Generalist, Analyst to Integrator, Tactician to Strategist, Bricklayer to Architect, Problem-solver to Agenda-setter, Warrior to Diplomat and Supporting Cast to Lead Role ("How Managers Become Leaders"). All these transitions require shifts in mindset and behaviour, if you want to lead a business, and they are not that easy to achieve.
