This report illuminates the challenges provider-led ACOs face when transitioning from volume to value. More importantly, it proposes four strategies to overcome these challenges, including upfront capitated payments, in support of CMS's 2023 goal. I've posted before about how advanced payments can support ACOs, especially those newly venturing into value-based care. Put simply, they provide ACOs with resources to make infrastructure investments. These investments include data and analytics tooling that identify opportunities to improve patient outcomes, measure performance, and uncover levers for financial sustainability. Similarly, upfront capitated payments make it easier to sustain day-to-day operations with more regular and predictable cash flow. Happy to share the below op-ed I worked on for the National Association of ACOs and the AHCA/NCAL. This culminates the findings of a roundtable we collectively put together to develop recommendations on ways to better integrate long-term, post-acute care into ACOs and other value-based care models. Overall, I think you'll see several thoughtful recommendations, including: --More thoughtful alignment approaches for beneficiaries in long-term care settings. --More appropriate financial benchmarks for beneficiaries in long-term care settings. --Quality measures that are more clinically meaningful. --Better approaches to data sharing.
