Should you focus on the past... or is the future what matters? As someone who works closely with construction professionals in Ohio, it's inspiring to see the incredible work being done to revitalize historic buildings and neighborhoods in downtown Cincinnati. Take the Willkommen Project in Over-the-Rhine (OTR) for example. It’s more than just a preservation effort—it’s a forward-thinking approach to combining affordability, good design, and historic renovation. By restoring 11 historic buildings and adding modern infill, Willkommen is bringing much-needed affordable housing to a historic area while maintaining its rich architectural fabric. (https://lnkd.in/gtHCnia8) Historic preservation isn’t just about preserving the past—it’s about shaping a future that’s both sustainable and economically sound. Cincinnati shows how we can blend innovation, heritage, and community to create lasting progress. If you’re passionate about urban revitalization or work in construction, I’d love to connect and discuss how these projects are changing the landscape of Cincinnati! 🌍 #UrbanRevitalization #HistoricPreservation #CincinnatiConstruction #ConstructionJobs #Sustainability #BuildingTheFuture

The vibrant urban spaces that make up The Riverfront Revitalization project in Omaha, Nebraska, have once again captured the imagination and recognition of prestigious design juries. We’re thrilled to announce that this project has recently been honored with Urban Land Institute's 2024 ULI Americas Award for Excellence and was also named the winner of the urban design category in the 2024 Fast Company Innovation by Design awards. In collaboration with OJB Landscape Architecture and many other partners, we tackled the engineering complexities of incorporating not one but three parks within downtown Omaha to improve access and connections, foster environmental connection and support economic growth. But don’t just take our word for it, here’s what the award programs had to say: “Emerging as a vibrant hub of entertainment and culture, The RiverFront has catalyzed the growth of new businesses, residential properties and commercial ventures, underscoring the pivotal role of open and accessible spaces in enhancing community life.“ - Urban Land Institute, May 2024 “Part of the design savvy employed by design firms HDR and OJB in reenvisioning this 72-acre green space was solving the puzzle of parkland that nobody could figure out for decades.” - Fast Company Magazine, July 2024 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gJp78XXG #UrbanDesign #UrbanPlanning #LandscapeArchitecture #CivilEngineering #ULI #FastCompany with OJB Landscape Architecture, Metropolitan Entertainment & Convention Authority

As the region begins to think of growth and the future of our major thoroughfares, it is important to envision the possibilities. With the initial feedback from Fayetteville's public input indicating a desire for more 'missing middle' housing types, as well as retail, service amenities and recreational facilities along 71b, the proposed zoning changes aim to address these needs. Collaborating with Groundwork, GEMSTONE Design Studio has reimagined what this zoning change could look like. This would allow for more mixed-use buildings, keeping density in developed areas while preserving natural and working lands. . The remaining public input sessions are 6/5 and 6/6 from 3pm - 6pm and 6/7 from 9am - 12pm. All three remaining dates will be held at the City Hall, first floor foyer. "In a downtown, the sense of belonging is always rather difficult because 𝗮 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻𝘁𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲." – Conrad Kickert, associate professor University at Buffalo School of Architecture and Planning How do we revitalize Detroit and build a more inclusive downtown? At 151 Ocean Front Walk, we didn’t just build a structure – we built a story. Every project begins with a why. Why this design? Why this location? Why this purpose? The answer lies in the belief that spaces are more than just physical dimensions – they’re where connections happen, ideas flourish, and communities thrive. It took vision, collaboration, and relentless attention to detail to turn this idea into a reality. The architect brought imagination to life, crafting a design that balances functionality and beauty on the beaches of Venice, California. Meanwhile, our team and partners made that vision tangible, ensuring every detail and element of the design was brought to life. 151 Ocean Front Walk stands as a testament to what happens when you bring together people who care deeply about creating spaces that inspire. A huge thank you to Carde Ten Architects (Scott Carde) for their extraordinary design, Peter Erdelyi for his engineering expertise, and our team at Fassberg their unwavering execution. This project was built for SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA PRESBYTERIAN HOMES. Together, we didn’t just build a building – we created an experience for seniors to enjoy for years to come. **64 Seniors Residences On Venice Beach California** #Architecture #Construction #Collaboration #151OceanFrontWalk #venice #veniceCA #StartWithWhy #seniorsresidence #seniorscommunity #venicebeach #beachliving #beachcity #buildingLA #realestatedevelopment #generalcontractor #architecturaldesign

As profiled in The Globe and Mail this week, the vision for The Vaughan Masterplan is rooted in heritage, sustainability, and walkability. https://lnkd.in/gqN6PxZf Eco-conscious design by our client, WZMH Architects ensures energy-efficient buildings with insulated facades, heat-exchanging ventilation, and tree-friendly soil requirements for long-term green space. Inspired by the city’s agricultural past, Bousfields Inc.’s urban planning strategy follows an “apple basket” concept, seamlessly integrating parklands, paths, and cycling trails into the towering skyline. With up to 10,000 housing units, commercial spaces, and direct TTC access, this transit-connected community contributes to easing the housing demand, reduces car dependency and fosters sustainable urban growth. – 📸: WZMH Architects #VaughanDowntown #WZMHArchitects #BousfieldsInc #VaughanDevelopment

🌿🏡 Building for Resilience in California 🔥 As wildfires become a growing threat in California, it’s more important than ever to prioritize fire-resistant design in new homes. Architects @Karina Maher and Michael Kovac set an inspiring example with their Los Angeles home, built with fire-resistant and sustainable features. When the Palisades Fire broke out, their home stood strong—intact amidst the destruction around it. Their home is a testament to resilient design, incorporating eco-friendly materials and advanced protective systems to withstand flames while reducing environmental impact. This story highlights a critical message: the homes we build today must be designed to face tomorrow’s challenges. Architects and technologists- How can we make fire-resistant, sustainable housing the standard? Let’s start the conversation.

We’re excited to see Hobsons Bay City Council has released the Forest Street Pop-Up Place Idea for consultation. This initiative is part of the 'Better Places Spotswood and South Kingsville' program that aims to provide a more holistic and integrated approach to thinking about and designing for future-looking change into the future in these neighbourhoods and actively involving the community in the process of shaping the places they live in. Our urban design, landscape architecture and transport teams were proud to contribute to the program, preparing two Spotswood projects ‒ the 'Streets for People’ and 'Hudsons Road Streetscape Masterplan’ ‒ in which we envisioned Forest Street and Hudsons Road intersection as a central gathering public open space for the community. The Forest Street Pop-Up Place Idea showcases tactical urbanism which not only creates a better community, sense of belonging and, engaged neighbourhood, but also tests how the community might use this space and how this potential transformation may succeed with more permanent features. Whether there is a full or partial road closure for vehicles, bench areas, or more vegetation, tactical urbanism allows councils to test features before making big decisions for urban infrastructure improvements. If you're interested in participating in Spotswood's future and want to play a part in its evolution, we invite you to visit the website here > https://ow.ly/W58250T4Fwj Ariel Utz & Ben Krastins #ratio #fosteringchange #urbandesign #spotswood #tacticalurbanism #transportplanning
