In honor of Women's History Month, MSU CEE is proud to highlight some of the wonderful women in our department and their efforts!
CEE Student Spotlight: Dana LeFevre is a senior undergraduate student, focused on construction management within civil engineering. After graduation, she will begin as a Project Engineer at The Christman Company.
While at MSU, Dana has participated in many extracurriculars including being a mentor through Women in Engineering, being on the leadership team for the Engineering Society of Detroit, and running the social media accounts for the American Society of Civil Engineers MSU student chapter. Throughout her summers, she has interned at the Road Commission for Oakland County, studied abroad in Italy, and interned at the Christman Company.
Why CEE: "I chose civil engineering because I have loved buildings and architecture from a young age. This career path allowed me to take on this passion as a career where I could problem-solve and work with others. Michigan State has provided an excellent program where I met supportive faculty and students alike who have helped me take the challenges of academia and turn them into accomplishments in the field. "
Advice to other women interested in CEE: "Be confident in yourself; you belong here! As a woman in construction, I feel empowered by connecting with others who share a similar path. I owe a great deal to the women who paved the way before me. If there are opportunities to learn from experienced women in your field, take the time to listen because it is extremely valuable."
Advice to prospective students: "I believe that the mentors and friendships I have made over the past four years have greatly influenced my journey. In moments when challenges seemed impossible to overcome, the professional relationships I had created provided an invaluable support system. My biggest piece of advice is to make your community here feel smaller. Although Michigan State is a large university, the different resources, clubs, and events can help you find your home here in many ways."
