A nod to the past, present and future provided the backdrop during the dedication of our new bridge over the South Yamhill River from OR 18 to Three Mile Lane in McMinnville.
Project staff, construction crews and county leaders gathered yesterday to thank the community for their patience and support following three years of work to replace the original 1951 wooden bridge structure with its new steel and concrete span.
Originally 35 feet wide, the 48 foot widened bridge can now better safely accommodate commercial traffic, pedestrians and cyclists. The bridge is a vital link between McMinnville and OR 18 southeast of the city that carries an average 16,000 vehicles per day, along with growing use by people walking and biking.
Because this is a busy route, we built a temporary bridge to carry traffic before demolishing the original bridge. This also feeds into one of the most common questions we’ve heard on this project - why is construction three years?
The answer is the project team built three bridges and we removed three bridges. A complete detour was built on the west side to get traffic off the alignment so we could demo the original bridge, and then they built a complete work bridge structure on the east side that was stout enough to support all the cranes and equipment.
The new bridge was ready for traffic last fall, but after this year’s removal of the detour and construction bridges, the last step in the project is restoration of the riverbank, including seeding. That work has begun, and landscape work will likely continue into early next year.
How do you build a brand-new grandstand when it’s right next to a busy motorway, backs onto an extremely steep bank and has a tight budget?
That was the question we had to answer when we delivered a new permanent Stadia construction project for Exeter Chiefs at their Sandy Park stadium.
The answer - an innovative solution that included a suspended ground floor cantilever structure on pile foundations, which mitigated the need for expensive sheet piling.
Find out more about how we built the new stand, including new terracing, drainage, infrastructure, seating, elevation treatment and ground works as a turnkey package.

🎉 Huge congratulations to the Tonkin Gap Alliance on their outstanding win at the Civil Contractors Federation WA 2024 Earth Awards! 🎉
The Alliance took home the WA Earth Award for projects over $150 million for their incredible work on the Tonkin Gap Project and Associated Works. To celebrate this achievement, we’re revisiting a key project milestone – the Guildford Road bridge beam lift at the end of 2021, captured through our time-lapse photography. 📸✨
Congratulations also to the Fitzroy Bridge Alliance for winning the Judges Award for the Fitzroy River Bridge Project, and to WA Limestone and DevelopmentWA for their well-deserved win in the $75 - $150 million category.
Kudos to all the teams involved for pushing the limits of innovation and excellence in civil construction! 👏

🏗️ What happens when a critical pipeline fails under a luxury community's concrete wall?
This is exactly the challenge our teams at Hinterland Group tackled recently - and it showcases why private communities trust us with their most complex infrastructure challenges.
The situation:
-18" corrugated metal pipe collapsed under a concrete block wall
-12 utility conflicts in dense landscape
-High water table requiring specialized dewatering
-Limited equipment access
-Active golf course operations to maintain
Our response? A synchronized deployment of five specialized crews:
✅Santos Rodriguez and Dan Ballard's teams executed precise pipeline replacement with manual excavation to protect existing utilities
✅ Saul Rivera's trenchless team installed an impressive 762' of 30" CIPP through the golf course, plus a 60" CIPP connecting two lakes
✅ Jesse Lewis's crew rehabilitated aging structures to eliminate infiltration issues
✅ Alfredo Ramirez's team properly decommissioned a collapsed 30" line using flow fill techniques
The result? A complex infrastructure repair completed while maintaining the community's pristine appearance and minimizing disruption to resident activities.
This is why HOAs and private communities continue to choose Hinterland Group. We don't just fix infrastructure - we protect property values and resident lifestyle through careful planning and expert execution.

Fay, S&B USA Construction is in the first phases of replacing the I-376 Commercial Street Bridge in Pittsburgh. By using accelerated bridge construction techniques to build a new bridge beside the existing structure, we’ll minimize traffic disruption on this key corridor between the eastern suburbs and downtown.
The project also spans two major conservation efforts: Frick Park and Nine Mile Run stream. To protect these natural attractions, Fay:
· Temporarily moved the hiking trail
· Installed compost filter socks along the stream’s floodplain to prevent sediment and pollutants from entering the water
· Built a small, temporary bridge to allow equipment to cross over the stream
· Piled trees and brush cleared from the project site for wildlife to use during construction
Once the new bridge is complete, Fay will restore the site by planting over 5,000 trees and shrubs—well beyond what was originally cleared! Read the entire article on Upstream Pittsburgh’s blog 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eM5QQbPK
