Several months ago Class A Truckin was approached by a 1099 company out of Chicago to help them with their recruiting. In a moment of weakness, we agreed to help them. After 2 days we stopped and will never make the same mistake again. In addition to breaking state and federal labor laws by having forced dispatch as a 1099, had to pay for their own gas (which is great if you are an LP but these drivers were company drivers that were told they were LPs) and if they were ever paid at all were paid a fraction of what they were owed. I talked to one driver that ran 2800+ miles and his check was $92.45. Unfortunately many drivers feel like they have no choice to take these jobs because of their driving record, background or failed drug test. We don't want to give any specific names as to avoid legal troubles but if the carrier is based out of the Chicagoland area and runs OTR or Regional you can bet dollars to donuts they are a Chicagoland 1099 carrier. Lastly, if you want to know what type of recruiting company you are working with, if they recommend one of these carriers, well, you have your answer. All kidding aside I do not know how they get away with the laundry list of tax and safety laws they violate on a daily basis. Lastly, the people that work these carriers and worse, the recruiters that send drivers thee for a few hundred dollars in commission should be ashamed of themselves. At least they can look in the mirror every morning and know the answer the the question, "Would I sell my mom for a nickel?" because the answer is yes.
