This morning I led a 90-minute webinar for the Association of French Teachers in Victoria, focusing on how AI tools can enhance French language teaching and learning. The session, titled "Adapting New Technology to Empower Modern Language Teaching, Learning, and Assessment", showcased practical applications of various AI technologies to support students' language skills.
I began by welcoming attendees and outlining our objectives: demonstrating practical uses of AI tools in the classroom to enrich learning and streamline teaching. I then delved into several key AI tools and their applications:
Immersive Reader, integrated into Microsoft products, supports reading comprehension and pronunciation. Helperbird, a Chrome extension, offers similar features plus additional capabilities. TurboScribe converts audio and video to text in multiple languages. Mizou enables the creation of educational chatbots for role-playing scenarios. Diffit generates texts and comprehension questions at various difficulty levels. Brisk Teaching automatically creates quizzes from videos or text. Padlet's "I Can't Draw" feature generates images from text prompts. The Image Accessibility Creator produces detailed image descriptions for visually impaired students. Lastly, I touched on ChatGPT 4o's enhanced document generation features.
Throughout the webinar, I encouraged participants to interact, ask questions, and share their experiences, making the session highly engaging and practical.
We concluded with a discussion on ethical considerations in using AI tools, including transparency and proper attribution. I provided additional resources, including access to a specialised course on AI in language teaching and information about the Language Teaching with AI Facebook Group.
The enthusiastic response from participants underscored the potential impact of integrating these technologies into language teaching practices. Although we didn't cover everything in my presentation, I was thrilled with the response to the content we did address. https://lnkd.in/dssjdUJe
