As a major contributor to overall global emissions, #steelmaking must significantly lower its carbon footprint to make the transition to a net zero world possible. But can such a hard-to-abate sector really go green – and if so, how? Last month, our experts presented their assessments of the potential of the key #decarbonisation options being pursued by the steel industry globally. Various technologies could reduce steelmaking emissions, mainly through alternative feedstocks. For more details, you can download the presentation slides, or read on for a brief review of the key technologies here: https://okt.to/kbMRtw #greensteel

Wood Mackenzie’s power modelling shows, China’s power sector carbon emissions will peak in 2027, three years earlier than the nation’s 2030 peak carbon target. According to our latest research, ‘China power market report 2024’, a total of US$1.2 trillion will be invested in #wind, #solar, and storage deployment over the next decade, 90% of which will come from #renewables. The annual power demand growth nationwide averages 5% to 2030, driven by electrification, high-tech manufacturing, datacenters, and strong residential and commercial demand growth. Renewables deployment has been accelerating since the 2060 carbon neutrality goal announcement. The share of renewable generation will rise from 30% in 2023 to 46% in 2030, and 64% in 2050. As China transitions to a hybrid power market system, wind and solar developers will closely scrutinise both revenue and curtailment issues.
