All the best to students beginning a summer with firms. All the best to students doing other things for the summer. For those with law firm summers, watch how people treat each other and whether the partners treat the associates with respect Assess how happy the associates are ( feel free to ask them) and whether they seem happy. Is there a partner spending time with you every day? Do partners take you out to lunch? Does a partner invite a group of you to play golf or to a Blue Jays game or to something else fun that interests you and a couple of other summer students? Do you get meaningful work? Do you get meaningful feedback? Do you go to client meetings? Are some students treated better than others? Have you been asked what you hope to get out of the summer? Do partners give you an overview of the matters you are working on-how did the firm get the work; how significant is the project? Is the partner excited by the matter? Can you help on a pro bono matter? Will your work be seen by the client? Did you get a chance to take a hand at a first draft of something of significance? Will 20 partners remember you on Oct 15? Would you be happy to work with 75% of them next year? HAVE FUN It is your summer, make the most of it. Make sure people at all levels in the firm or company will remember who you are for at least five good reasons. Have fun-it isn’t worth it if it isn’t fun and you don’t feel valued.

Welcoming Nur Nadrah Imani who joins the firm as an intern. Here are her introductory words:- "Hello! I'm Nadrah, a final year law student at IIUM, currently interning at Messrs Choo Dee Wei. Over the past few years, I have developed a decent foundation in various areas of law, with a keen interest in litigation and corporate law. Through this internship, I wish to know more about the litigation field; dealing with real current cases, how court proceedings are done in real life etc. Academics aside, I enjoy reading and write my own thoughts about books. I really appreciate the opportunity given by the firm and I look forward to learn a lot with CDW!" Qussiynur Yakin, Tianxin See, Emmanuel Tan, Lai Zhi Ru, Yaasin Jamal

Law students, there’s lots of talk about learning from your mistakes but not enough focus on learning by being able to laugh at yourself. Humor builds character and humility. Taking your mistakes in school or your intern/externships seriously should involve taking your ego lightly! #lawstudent #lawstudents #lawschool

Treat your summer-associate experience like an improv performance. To the summer associates starting their new positions, keep in mind the rule-of-thumb many improv comics employ: "Yes, And." Walking into my first summer job, I felt like a fish out of water. So many of my law-school peers had studied pre-law in undergrad; had already interned for firms; and/or had family members who practiced. I, however, had a rhetoric degree; some teaching experience; and a firefighter father and a social-worker mother. Although I now realize that my semi-unique background is a strength, as I walked into the first summer-associate meeting back in 2021, I felt like I didn't belong. I was therefore determined to never appear out of place. This mentality didn't entirely hinder my experience. It encouraged me to say "yes" to almost any project an associate or partner offered me, which I always recommend. Exposing yourself to a variety of practice areas and assignments is the point of a law-school summer job; it helps you ascertain what you want your future career to look like. But trying to appear knowledgeable regardless of the situation meant I didn't seek necessary information. I avoided asking whether the assigning attorney knew of helpful resources or seminal cases to provide guidance on the project. I didn't reach out for clarification if I felt that I was missing pertinent facts. I agreed to any project without posing follow-up questions. I said "yes" but dodged the "and." It wasn't until I switched from a yes-man mentality to a yes-and mentality that I truly benefitted from my summer experience. I learned new tips and tricks to expedite the research process, my drafting time shortened, and I started to build more rapport with the firm's attorneys. So, say yes to the projects, even the ones seemingly outside your zone of interest. But follow the "yes" with "and," asking questions to ensure you understand the scope and particulars of the assignment. Being inquisitive doesn't make you amateur, inferior, or unintelligent. It doesn't make you look out of place. It makes you a lawyer. And asking the right questions? Well, that makes you a darn good one. #newlawyer #firstgenlawyer #summerassociate

Exciting news! I've been accepted into the 3-week summer intensive in Legal Technology & Operations at the Bucerius School of Law in Hamburg, Germany! As someone who's passionate about the intersection of law and technology, I can't wait to dive deeper into the impact of artificial intelligence on the legal field and the world at large. My interest in A.I. and its potential in the legal industry inspired me to start "The No BS A.I. Law Blog" this semester. My goal is to encourage law students and professionals without science backgrounds to explore the legal tech space. I firmly believe that technology, data, and A.I. will play a crucial role in the future of legal debate. Join me on this journey by checking out my blog (launching soon), and stay tuned for updates on my experience at Bucerius School of Law this summer! #LegalTech #ArtificialIntelligence #FutureOfLaw #BuceriusSchoolOfLaw

During my corporate law internship at PEARLTON ASSOCIATES , one of our classes delved extensively into debt financing options and the intricacies of charges. This reminds me of my first encounter with the concept of charges under corporate practice and property practice at the Nigerian Law school, leading me to write an article on navigating charges in corporate finance, which has was subsequently approved for publication. This article will explore the types of charges, creation, enforcement, their legal effects and their role in corporate finance. #corporatefinance #Legalwriting #legalresearch #corporatelaw

🎓Aspiring Attorney Driven by the pursuit of justice, fueled by truth and navigating the legal landscape with unwavering determination.⚖️
As a fifth-semester student at Lloyd Law College, I’ve come to realize that the pursuit of knowledge in law is not just about understanding statutes and judgments—it's about growing personally and professionally. Every day presents a new opportunity to sharpen our legal acumen, challenge ourselves with real-world cases, and engage in meaningful discussions. Through internships, seminars, and the guidance of inspiring professors, I’ve gained invaluable insights that go far beyond textbooks. For all students out there, remember: law isn't just a profession; it's a responsibility. Whether we contribute to justice, advocate for the voiceless, or create impactful change, every step we take in law school shapes the future. Let’s keep pushing boundaries, learning from setbacks, and striving for excellence. 🌱 #LawStudentLife #LloydLawCollege #FutureOfLaw #NeverStopLearning
