20 homes on foundations, plants in the ground, and equipment on the playground! Move-in day for wildfire survivors is finally on the horizon. Beyond move-in, we'll set our sights on Phase 2: "Homes for Good is in the process of procuring the 20 Manufactured/Modular homes and once purchased will be working closely with OHCS, Lane County, and assigned case managers to work with individuals and families that were displaced by the Holiday Farm Fire to connect them to this housing opportunity. The project will address inequitable access to high quality housing in low-income rural communities and community revitalization post disaster."

Durkan are working hard with the The Skills Centre, and a group of amazing supply chain partners to develop high quality, repeatable Bootcamp programmes. Our shared goal is to move jobseekers and job-changers into retrofit career pathways that pay well, and help fill the massive skills gaps in the cladding, roofing, fire stopping, and fenestration sectors. In December, we took a breather to assess progress so far. We met learners on the final day of our first roofing bootcamp, celebrated two immediate job outcomes - and discussed strategy for expanding the scope and number of bootcamps in 2025. We are trying to embed an understanding of key retrofit principles in learners from day one. We believe this will provide a vital foundation underpinning their skills as they develop into skilled trades - and beyond. Our supply chain partners have told us over and over - it's simple. Give us the raw material and we will do the rest. The jobs are out there, the people are out there - but bringing the two together is far more difficult than it should be. Anyone who works in this area will tell you that. Our goal in 2025 will be to continue to work in partnership to develop the bootcamp model, recognising weaknesses and continuously improving our offer to learners and employers. We hope we can help turn the massive potential for a retrofit training and jobs pipeline into a reality - at the same time building the capacity to actually deliver the massive workloads required to achieve net zero.

Exciting news for Highland Heritage Woodworks as it announces a £250,000 investment to establish a state-of-the-art sawmill in the heart of the Dunecht Estate, Aberdeenshire. This ambitious firm, which provides sustainable timber to the construction industry and has almost doubled in size in the last 12 months, is planning to adapt its premises, install new equipment and create a customised sawmill. We've provided advice and support to help it expand into new areas with the addition of innovative new timber products and a bespoke cabin business. Chief Executive Officer of Highland Heritage Woodworks, Guy Phillips, said: “We started the company by combining my business development experience with that of my master carpenter co-founder and we have been very fortunate to receive support from various organisations along the way. Standing in McGregor, Texas, and seeing this 600,000 SF facility rise from the fields was incredible! Partnering with Knauf North America has been a perfect match, with shared values like integrity and innovation driving every step. Mastering tilt-wall construction to crafting 75-foot panels weighing 230,000 pounds, this project represents the largest manufacturing facility we’ve built in 40+ years. Transforming a cow pasture into a state-of-the-art operation with 160 employees running 24/7 is a proud milestone for both teams, and we’re excited to see how it will shape the future!
