In this segment, a veteran speaks candidly about the challenges faced by military personnel when transitioning to civilian life, emphasizing the military's lack of support in helping veterans understand their marketable skills and value outside of the armed forces. This discussion points to the pressing need for better resources and guidance for veterans venturing into new careers.

"Knowing what you know now, what would you do differently if you went back into the military?" - "Document everything." - "Stayed in and kept better copies/track of all records." - "Document all my injuries." - "Keep up with all my medical records." - "hmmmm...SO many things. Just a few...Ensured my contract said what I wanted and not be swayed. Do my 20...document everything..." - "Ensure you get a complete copy of medical records BEFORE you get out..." - "Get copies of your entire: 1. Medical records 2. Dental records 3. Personnel file Once you leave active duty it can take 4 months or longer to get copies of the above items. And, you might find some things may be missing or incomplete. Do not risk it!!!" ☝ Actual responses from veterans of all branches. It's pretty clear - thorough and consistent documentation of military records WHILE IN THE SERVICE is crucial to a successful experience while in and after transitioning out. We prepare recruits for the military, but how do we prepare veterans for civilian life/ the workplace? Veterans have a lot of skills and experience that can be valuable in the workplace, but it’s not always easy for them to make the transition. It has to start with businesses stepping up to create opportunities and showing genuine gratitude for people in the military.
