It's that time of year again! Looking for a charitable giving opportunity this holiday season? Consider making a donation to the Foundation for Shared Impact (FSI) Annual Holiday Fundraiser. Many people know about our shared impact community in Hong Kong. But did you know that we also have community members across Asia and Africa? Every year we ask these colleagues to submit project ideas aimed at supporting the underprivileged in their local communities. This year we have identified projects in the Philippines, Kenya, Egypt, and Indonesia. All projects will be overseen by our team members on the ground, so you can rest assured that every cent will go toward the project deliverables. Joining this community three years ago was one of the best decisions I ever made. It all started when I followed some random IT related account on instagram and the next thing I knew, I was hopping on a plane to Philadelphia to participate in my first #TEKSGiving. Fast forward to today… 3 TEKSgivings later…. We’re prepping for our 3rd annual TEKFest to secure funding for #TEKSGiving25. If you DONT know what #TEKSgiving is, it’s our annual charity project where we select a member-nominated NFP that is in dire need of technological help, evaluate their current situation, redesign their ENTIRE IT and security infrastructure, then we use every dime we raise from donations AND #TEKFest proceeds to purchase ALL of the equipment they need…crazy right? Nope. The crazy part is our community members from all across the country… even some international members….mobilize. We fly in, 20-30 members deep, rip out all of the old stuff, and install everything over the weekend…. All for free. It honestly blows my mind every year I’ve been. The impact that some of the upgrades have on these organizations is unmeasurable. Which brings us back to #TEKFest…. Doing all of these cool things unfortunately requires money. Lucky for you, we’re not just asking for donations for nothing (although you can still do that @ www.donate.teknowledge.org). If you come to #TEKFest you’ll get access to several different educational classes, face time with some of the most incredible vendors and manufacturers in the game, and the ability to network with business owners from all over that truly believe in #CommunityOverCompetition. Additional takeaway from my last post: want to help western North Carolina (WNC)? Adopt a church and make a donation directly. There is a huge logistical/ distribution problem getting aid out from the I40/US321 corridors right now (the two examples from Old Fort and Morganton provided last post plus the Town of Boone stopped taking donations Friday). As in the example provided, churches are actively engaged in helping their communities but are short on resources while local municipalities are being overrun with the influx of aid. Disaggregating the distribution approach is needed. Just as in business, small locally focused industrial distributors often provide value because of their access to and relationships with their customers. So too do churches have this access and these relationships and every community has a church. So just as I found Ed and Reggie at FBC Hildebran so too could you find a church in WNC and make a donation and help bypass the bottlenecks. Want to help WNC? Adopt a WNC church and make a donation directly.

When starting a project, typically your plan is to make it to the finish line and leave the space better then how it started! But plans are made to be changed, right?? Getting your space back into shape means letting go of things that no longer serve you for one reason or another. At the end of every project you are left with a completed space that brings you joy + happiness and a corner filled with discarded items. Consider making one more change to your plan and separating your trash and donation. Your unwantables can go on to serve others in need, rather than in a landfill. There are so many organizations in need!
