𝗠𝘆 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗡𝗶𝗹𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜 𝗮𝗺 𝗮 𝗡𝗲𝘄𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗔𝗱𝗱𝗶𝗰𝘁.. I recently participated in an insightful workshop on revenue diversification at WAN-IFRA, the World Association of News Publishers. The session was expertly moderated by Michael Brunt and provided a valuable platform for industry peers to discuss current challenges and opportunities. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗱: 𝟭. 𝗦𝘂𝗯𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗲: Despite significant efforts, growth hasn’t matched the peaks seen during COVID. I shared my frustration sometimes with publishers not adapting (or fast enough) essential strategies like focusing on reader registration and understanding their habits to build their strategy and the importance of creating a testing culture. However, it’s clear that implementing these strategies can be challenging. One participant highlighted the importance of effectively selling these ideas within the organization. 𝟮. 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: We explored the potential of organizing events for a loyal audience community, recognizing that we’re just scratching the surface of the possibilities. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝗴 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻: Publishers are licensing their content to major AI players for model training, presenting a significant revenue opportunity. Additionally, the wide possibilities of using AI tools to improve efficiency are intriguing, though this efficiency doesn’t necessarily equate to better content. Discerning the truth can be tricky. It is helpful to have resources like search engines, but they are only helpful if the user is astute enough to use multiple reputable sources and to view all results with healthy skepticism. AI is no exception. I recently read a Morning Brew* newsletter that talked about some of the mistakes AI is making. While they can sometings be pretty dang funny to folks who can differentiate truth from fiction, they can also be incredibly dangerous. If the user believes the information they receive in response to a prompt, then we have a big problem. Here are some of the wild answers AI has spit out recently: Eating small rocks is good for digestion Glue belongs on pizza (keeps the cheese in place) Gasoline goes well with spaghetti Barack Obama is Muslim. (He is not.) There is no African country that starts with K. (Umm, Kenya?) Most horribly, a Redditor asked Google how to deal with depression, and the AI generated answer was to “Jump off the Golden Gate Bridge.” I can see how this happens since there is so much online that is fabricated, or opinion, or mean spirited. What I’m looking for is how we’re going to teach discernment so folks can separate truth from fiction. I hope that schools will start the education when the children are young and teach them how to vet an answer and how to ensure they are receiving appropriate responses. We need to teach folks to seek the truth and not confirmation that our own opinions/biases are accurate. #AI #FACTvsFICTION #ArtificialIntelligence *https://lnkd.in/eMTaz2Q9
