Looking for a job in news? This is a role that will give you: - Creativity to help out in an "assignment desk" capacity. My digital content producers should always be pitching, developing and planning impactful content. You must have an understanding of the elements required to present the full story. - A place to be a self-starter. This is (in my mind) the single most important thing you can bring to the table. Don't wait for others to tell you who to call, what to chase and what questions to ask. You will have flexibility to be aggressive with news coverage and features for yourself and to pitch for our beat reporters in a way you can help maximize story telling. - Space to do the job. Instead of micromanagement, I'm more about macromanagement. You get freedom to do the job, as long as the job is done. Be prepared for -- the possibility of this role covering second shift/weekends. If that's a problem, news is probably not your jam. We don't keep bankers hours. Additionally, this is not a work from home role. You will have the flexibility to work from home during inclement weather and in other situations where we adapt to the day as best as we can -- but be prepared to work in the newsroom. In my opinion, the answer is “NO!” Hospitality is an industry that relies heavily on providing great customer service and satisfaction. In this industry, small gestures make a big difference. It requires much more than what I’ve stated in the first line. Many other skills and traits make one suitable for this industry. Let me put some basics that are required: - Active Listening. - Communication Skills. - Knowledge of Services. - Prompt Response. - Professional Appearance. - Attention to Detail. - Problem-solving skills. - Teamwork. - Cultural/ Religious Sensitivity. - Flexibility. - Empathy. - Willingness to always learn. - Punctuality. I've been a day ahead of myself all week, so my brain checked out yesterday, thinking it was today. 😕 So I had to tell my boss (me) that my brain was no longer interested. My boss replied Fine, but don't make a habit of it. The CMO (also me) said Great! You can spend the day marketing your own business! Go create a lead magnet or something. I ignored her and took the dog for a walk. Alas, the CFO (yep, still me) tried to point out that a day off work is a day not paid and therefore a day wasted, but the company health and wellness coach (again, me) told her to piss off. Then HR got involved (once again, me) and told everyone to relax, that the employee manual that says I'm entitled to a day off now and again. There's just as many people involved in my daily work life now as there was when I worked in the corporate world - except now they're all one person, and that person gets very cranky after too many jam-packed weeks.
