May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Staying in touch with family and friends, attending a telehealth appointment with a therapist, and watching a favorite movie are all ways to practice self-care and elevate our well-being. To ensure all Americans, including Veterans and people with disabilities, can prioritize their mental health, Clear2Connect is committed to advancing the availability, accuracy, accessibility, and quality of Information and Communications Technology (ICT). ICT is a broad term that encompasses many types of devices, tools, and systems that facilitate our exchange of information, including phones, computers, and televisions. https://lnkd.in/eKav7b6S

It’s PCOS Awareness Month, and it's time we actually talk about it. I was diagnosed with PCOS last year after a 10 year battle with trying to get a diagnosis (giving up multiple times throughout those years and trying to get on with it). The reality is - many women are never diagnosed. Let’s talk about the fun stuff 😐 ✨Periods that show up like an unreliable friend ✨Fatigue/poor sleep/sleep apnoea that makes coffee your BFF ✨Weight fluctuations and difficulty with weight loss ✨Depression and anxiety, excess stress ✨Hair loss or *too* much hair in unwanted places (pick a lane already) ✨Skin acting like it’s going through a second puberty There isn't a specific cure for PCOS and when diagnosed, there is no support for your next steps, so I am currently researching and trialling many different things to get myself back on track. 🤸♂️ I am so thankful that the industry switch (for the most part) to hybrid working, and flexible hours at Flaunt Digital | B Corp™ is a game changer. 🕒 I can have extra time to catch up on sleep if needed, less commuting stress, and can manage my time without feeling like my brain and body can't keep up all the time. To everyone else navigating work, life, and the curveball that is PCOS, you’re doing amazing, even on the days when it feels like your body’s got its own agenda. 💜

The data on mobile phone screen time is striking. Globally, individuals spend an average of 4 hours and 36 minutes daily, equivalent to one full day per week. Personally, my screen time averages five to six hours post-work hours, with a significant portion dedicated to productive activities like reading and news consumption. In contrast, others spend more time watching reels and shorts. According to 2023 estimates, Indians spend 4 hours and 3 minutes on mobile screens, compared to 2 hours and 36 minutes in technologically advanced Germany and 1 hour and 54 minutes in Japan. Notably, average mobile internet usage has increased from 32 minutes in 2011 to 3 hours and 50 minutes in 2023. Excessive screen time significantly impacts productivity and has negative effects on eye health and mental well-being. However, some screen time diligence is beneficial for society, including myself.

A person can have accessibility needs without a formal diagnosis. If I were to have an accident and be in a wheelchair, I wouldn't need to have a piece of paper that allows me to use ramps and lifts. If my hearing were to become impaired, I wouldn't need permission to put subtitles on my TV. If a person recognises that they are experiencing symptoms of a neurodivergent condition, they shouldn't have to wait for a piece of paper to allow them to ask for what they need. Interview and workplace accommodations should be for anyone who feels they need them. Just as a person with mobility challenges can choose to use accessibility features, a person that suspects they are neurodivergent should be able to use reasonable adjustments before receiving a formal diagnosis. Let's face it, diagnosis or not, if people know how they work best, wouldn't we be foolish to force them to do things in another way?

As we age, we will only maintain the physical movement we practice. It's incredible how many women wake up one day and can't easily get up and down off the floor. Don't let that be you.
