First Customer Live on CityFibre’s Cambridgeshire Project Gigabit Broadband Build CityFibre have announced that the first customer has just gone live on their new full fibre (FTTP) broadband ISP network in Cambridgeshire (England) under the £69m state aid supported Project Gigabit rollout contract (Lot 5), which began its construction phase back in February 2024 (contract was awarded in March 2023). The original contracted announcement stated that a total of “around” 45,000 premises (hard-to-reach homes and businesses) in the county are ultimately expected to be covered by the new digital infrastructure (here). But the operator has previously stated that this deployment will also unlock a further £53m of commercial funding, which will separately enable them to reach a further 170,000 premises in the same county (total of 215,000): https://lnkd.in/g_u2ZaeY #ispreview #broadband #telecoms #networks #gigabit #cityfibre #cambs

Exciting developments in the broadband sector! As we anticipate a historic $42.5 billion investment in Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD), let's take a moment to reflect on the significant fiber milestones achieved in 2023 by some of our industry partners! AT&T Fiber: Surpassed 8 million subscribers, doubling its customer base in less than 4 years, and aims to reach 30 million locations by 2025. TDS Telecom: Raised its 2023 fiber service address goal to 200,000, targeting 1.2 million addresses by 2026, with plans to slow spending and focus on broadband penetration. Google Fiber: Expanded by more than 10% in 2023, launching service in new states and planning further expansion in 2024, including Nebraska, Colorado, and Idaho. Lumos: Constructed 1,500 miles of fiber in 2023, with a goal to pass 1 million households by 2026, actively participating in grant programs and a sustainability-linked infrastructure financing deal. Lumen: Expects to deploy 500,000 or more fiber-enabled locations in 2023, with plans to continue this pace in 2024 and explore government funding programs. GoNetspeed: Launched service in over 26 communities, accelerating builds in 2023, expecting to pass more than 140,000 locations this year, with plans for expansion in Maine, Connecticut, and New York. UTOPIA: Built 448.5 miles of fiber in Utah, actively expanding in Bountiful and West Haven, aiming for completion in 2024, with impressive take rates ranging from 41% to nearly 66%. WOW!: Passed 14,100 greenfield homes in Central Florida, invested over $71 million in its all-fiber network, and aims to reach 400,000 new homes by the end of 2027 despite challenging Q3 and Q4 results. In a significant boost for Nebraska's broadband infrastructure, the state's Broadband Bridge Program has awarded $19.7 million in funding, with small rural telcos taking the lead. Hartelco, established in 1905, emerged as the top winner, securing almost $7.2 million across four projects. Glenwood Telecommunications and Pinpoint Communications, both with deep local roots, followed suit with five awards totaling over $3.5 million and three awards worth over $2.6 million, respectively. Cox Communications, a major cable provider, claimed the fourth spot with nearly $2.4 million for two projects, while Diller Telephone Company (Diode Cable) rounded out the top five, securing over $1.2 million for two projects. CenturyLink/Lumen and Charter, operating nationally, won smaller amounts, signaling the prominence of local providers in this funding round. Of the 19 companies vying for funds, only half emerged victorious. The Nebraska Public Service Commission oversaw the allocation of funds, with 22 out of 51 proposed projects receiving financial backing. This funding, approved by state legislators, marks a crucial step in advancing broadband connectivity across #Nebraska. Exclusive insights and insider's scoop from Telecompetitor. ⬇️

Good momentum, and keeping their target per HH passed, which is critical to deploying the network!
Frontier Communications is sustaining its fiber buildout pace. Under its fiber initiative dubbed Building Gigabit America, the company added 322,000 fiber passings in 1Q24 and says it is on track to achieve its goal of 1.3 million passings for 2024. At the end of the quarter, the company reported 6.8 million fiber passings out of its total base of 15.4 million copper and fiber passings across its 25-state operating area. Of the total passings, Frontier had 2.1 million fiber broadband connections, representing a 31 percent penetration. The company expects to maintain a run-rate of 300,000-350,000 passings per quarter to meet its goal of at least 10 million fiber passings by the end of 2025. #frontiercommunications #fiber #capex
