Strategic Marketing Leader | Driving Growth for Disruptive Digital Brands | Expert in Consumer Engagement and Brand Innovation
Having worked in the security vertical for a while, I expect more M&A activity in the future. Many smaller players with a specialized product are a perfect target for bigger firms to upsell a more complete security stack. https://lnkd.in/e2eCgdfg who will be next? This will most likely happen in the B2B space, the B2C security markets are very promotional, especially in the US. Still, for consumers new products are needed to keep yourself safe. Hidden traps are just around the next corner.

Thought going into the weekend. What does your supply chain security look like? Many often overlook supply chain and often, once a service or good is delivered, we do not keep tabs on our suppliers. This recent article by Cam Siversind on SecureWorld, highlights a real-world issue. https://lnkd.in/g_fRJJGn At first glance, the concern is just that personal information was stolen. Some of it may have also included credit card details... ... peel the onion back just one more layer.... ... data also included Service Tag details, which provide insights into customer device configurations, which could create possible exploit opportunities against any of these device consumers (individuals and enterprise). What are you doing to ensure supply chain security? What practices have you implemented? How can we push our suppliers to do more to ensure data like this stay sufficiently secure? Would love to hear your thoughts.

Security Ratings Explained https://lnkd.in/ekdRtXpn This post was originally published here . The Problem of Digitization The digitization of business has increased the speed of commerce, the scope of customers, the understanding of consumer habits, and the efficiency of operations across the board. It has also increased the risk surface of business, creating new dangers and obstacles for the business itself, not just its technology. This risk is compounded by the interrelations of digital businesses as data handling and technological infrastructure is outsourced, as each third party becomes a vector for breach or exposure for the primary company. Here are some quick thoughts on the impact on Kaspersky's US customers who had their software swapped with UltraAV: 1/ Buying antivirus software is like purchasing health insurance—you don’t need it until an emergency strikes, and when it does, you want it to cover most, if not all, of your issues. 2/ While erosion of trust is a definite outcome, many can face issues around deleting the software and understanding the permissions they must not allow to avoid a similar problem in the future. Most importantly, some might even face losing critical data in trying to resolve this issue, as they have to reinstall the OS drive to get rid of this new software before installing a new one. 3/ While this has been a blow for Kaspersky, it’s also an incident that Microsoft must think more deeply about. Threat actors and scammers can also use sweeping permissions in myriad ways, and Microsoft must introduce new ways to educate the user when such permissions are being given. It would also help users to be reminded of these permissions on an ongoing basis and the impact such permissions can have. Lest we forget, only recently, CrowdStrike users faced massive outages globally when a new faulty update was pushed to customers. For more details on the topic, please see the link below.
