How should one promote Space Sustainability, beyond the issue of space debris? And what should be the target audience? I was enthousiastic after getting an invitation to be an expert at SG[France] 2024 in Lyon, the main event of #France's branch of the Space Generation Advisory Council. With this year's theme being Space Sustainability, there were three working groups, discussing topics of "sustainability of the space industries", "sustainability of space operations" and "space applications for global sustainability". The goal of each group is to provide recommendations for the space sector, which may eventually be brought up during a meeting at the #UnitedNations. As this is a #SGAC event, it has an excellent target audience for this topic! Indeed, the organisation focuses on young professionals (18 to 35 year old), but some more "experienced" people were present too. This is perfect as that is exactly the segment of engineers, lawyers, educators, etc which should be sensitised to this increasingly important issue! It was great to present in the first working group, lead a work table and discuss the environmental impacts of our sector. I learned a lot from the co-experts during the session: Rico Behlke highlighted the often-ignored impacts of the Ground Segments and the trends in regulations, and Julien Doche delved into the highly uncertain impacts of the launch segment. A big thanks to Thomas Bellier to organise the working group and to the delegates for coming up with novel recommendations! And, a more general thanks to all the organisers of the event. Also, it was fun to see a large representation of current and former colleagues at eSpace - EPFL Space Center, amongst who another expert Mathieu Udriot !
