AEM’s innovative approach to coil design—compressing more copper into the same space—results in enhanced power output and improved heat dissipation. In any electric motor, coils are crucial for creating an electromagnet that generates the rotating magnetic field needed for the motor to operate. However, a key challenge in motor design is minimising losses. Traditionally, we could reduce these losses by using thicker conductors, but simply making conductors thicker increases the motor’s size, weight, and cost. That’s where our coil compression technology comes into play. We carefully wind the coils, so they occupy a larger space than needed, and then we compress them. This process eliminates the tiny gaps and free spaces that normally exist between the coils, effectively packing more copper into the same area. The result? Fitting more conductor material into the motor without increasing its size. This compressed coil design leads to several key benefits: Lower resistance, lower losses: By packing more copper into a given space, the electrical resistance in the coils is reduced. This means less energy is lost as heat, improving the motor’s overall efficiency. Higher efficiency: With lower resistance, more of the electrical energy put into the motor is converted into mechanical power. Enhanced performance: This increased efficiency translates directly into higher reliability, especially in demanding applications where power density and thermal management are critical.
