This weekend, you can support The Resilient Activist without spending a penny!
During Project for Awesome's 24-hour charity-raising livestream from Feb. 16-18, support The Resilient Activist by voting for our P4A video at https://lnkd.in/gSVbX6cs
Every vote increases our chances of receiving donations from the Project for Awesome livestream (led by John & Hank Green's Nerdfighteria) 🎉
These will help expand our programming and allow us to reach a wider array of activists into 2024 and beyond! ✨
One of things that I love doing is supporting small nonprofits. I find the work interesting and impactful, which is one of the reasons behind creating The Center for Community Collaboration. However, one of the most challenging things I have found is talking the team/board/etc away from hosting a big event. One organization typically doesn't have the staff, time, and budget to host a fundraiser that will generate revenue. (This is often true of most organizations, not just the small ones!)
Enter my solution - collaborative fundraisers! Let's bring together multiple organizations to work together to host a fun event, raise money together, and create collective support for our causes.
Are you in #NewHaven at the end of September? Considering coming to the Great Nonprofit Game Show, a collaborative fundraiser benefiting 6 local organizations.
Can't make it? Consider a donation to a particular org, or even a sponsorship.

We're almost six weeks out from The Great Nonprofit Game Show! Have you gotten your tickets yet?
Join the Center for Community Collaboration in celebrating six local nonprofits as they compete in a series of fun and friendly challenges - hosted by The Game Show Guys - and raise funds for each of their organizations. As part of the audience, you'll be able to cheer on your favorite orgs, play games, enter a raffle full of awesome prizes, and connect with members of our community. When we come together to support one another, we all win!

I promise I'll post about my actual job (we have a new video to share about Mainframe mod and GenAI!) but as summer winds to a close I wanted to share a charity opportunity related to Golf:
https://lnkd.in/g2i6mqfG
Ultimately this is about helping kids lead healthier lives and is related to the amazing work that Jack and Barbara Nicklaus have done across the world to help kids heal and thrive with their Play Yellow initiative.
My Wife Ashley and her colleague Kelli are going to play 72 holes of golf in one day and they are going to make it rain birdies. If you have a bit of a gambling mindset, you can make a donation based on the number of birdies they're going to make. You can also make an up-front donation. Note that this is focused on Colorado - ask your local pro if something is happening near you!
Why is this on LinkedIn? Two reasons - first - this is really the only social media I do. I do so little I don't know if this actually counts as social media.
Second - having married a professional golfer I've learned a lot about golf that has surprised me. Watching Ashley and her friends and colleagues navigate a male-dominated world (5% of PGA professionals are women. 5%!) is in many ways a clearer lens to the same challenges we see in technology. The backlash we've seen in some pockets of the world against fostering inclusion - one person's opinion here - ignores the reality that a diversity of thought and opinion makes teams better. Here's a golf example - when you're taking a golf lesson, you are incredibly vulnerable and it can be intimidating - no single approach works for everyone. Finding a coach that resonates with you (and this can be especially hard for women coming to the game, or children wanting to learn) is critical to your experience. There is not a long line to draw between this phenomenon and what we see in technology as leaders, mentors and peers.
Also, golf is fundamentally a game of integrity - I've seen remarkable examples of leadership and integrity on the course (look up "Sahith Theegala penalty" for an unbelievable example recently) and again it reminds me of all the things we try to do as leaders and professionals in business. I've always liked the phrase "integrity is what happens when no one is looking" and if golf can help me and others to model that, there's more to the game than I thought.
Let me close by saying - for those in the Northern Hemisphere - enjoy the last gasps of summer, whatever brings you outside to do so!
On Tuesday, September 24th, I will be participating in the inaugural Colorado PGA Birdie Bash fundraiser event to raise funds for PGA REACH Colorado and Children's Hospital Colorado. I, alongside other Colorado PGA Professionals, will play 72 holes of golf in one day at The Ranch Country Club in an attempt to make as many birdies as possible! Please consider making a pledge per birdie to support these impactful organizations. YOUR GIFT MATTERS and will help us reach our goal of raising $110,000! To make a pledge, please visit: https://lnkd.in/gWWgpdNi
Concept: It is the heart of the event. It is sometimes challenging to understand how to create an event that is attractive to your audience. It all falls within developing the concept. If you work hard at this stage, and then follow up with the remaining 4 Cs, You will watch that donations thermometer rise in your full house of attendance:)
Are your promotions capping your sales?
If you're running a promo that gives customers a percentage off when spending a certain amount, are you capping your sales at around that amount?
Around the time that the Oorah Auction site went live I noticed a possible pain point on our end.
Our highest QuickPick option was only $250. So by creating this promotion were we capping our top donations at $250?
stay tuned for my solution 💡
Over the weekend, I was able to celebrate the work of the Indiana University Dance Marathon in 2023 ahead of Indiana’s clash against Penn State at Simon Skojdt Assembly Hall.
While I have been transitioning out of my post as the Director of Corporate Relations over the past few months, I wanted to reflect on some of the lessons I learned from my tenure.
1. Relationships Matter - Establishing and nurturing robust connections is essential for effective leadership, especially when working collaboratively with a diverse set of individuals. In my role, this involved 22 other student leaders on the executive council, 7 chairpersons and 60+ committee members on my committee, and a portfolio of numerous businesses from across the nation. Fostering positive relationships with each of these groups is crucial, as it plays a vital role in achieving our common goal of contributing to lifesaving efforts for kids in need at Riley Hospital for Children. The utilization of authentic connections served as a pivotal factor in attaining shared objectives between stakeholders.
2. Be Decisive - Being decisive entails not only making informed and timely choices but also acting proactively based on data. Striking a balance between gathering sufficient information and avoiding prolonged decision-making processes is essential for progress. A decisive leader showcases confidence and clarity in their choices, fostering momentum and direction for the team. This approach not only instills a sense of purpose but also encourages proactive decision-making among team members.
3. Keep The Faith - Maintaining a positive and optimistic mindset, especially during challenging times, is crucial for leadership. Believing in the mission and vision of your organization can inspire others and help overcome obstacles. Acknowledging the highest of highs and the lowest of lows over the course of my tenure on the executive council added depth to this perspective. It was a year filled with both triumphs and tribulations.
The journey, however, became meaningful through the unwavering support of my colleagues. Standing by each other during tough times and celebrating victories together forged a strong sense of camaraderie. While the frustrations of unproductive efforts were present, this collective perseverance made every endeavor worthwhile. In the end, the elation of celebrating the accomplishment of raising over $3 million for lifesaving healthcare with my best friends eclipsed everything, making the entire experience incredibly fulfilling.
My time in IUDM was truly the best thing that has ever happened to me. It made me a better marketer, better leader, and most importantly, a better man.
I will always look fondly at my time in the organization and I am incredibly grateful to FORVIS, Allied Solutions LLC, Solution Tree, Graduate Hotels, Mom Water, HospitalRecruiting, Papa Johns, and countless other partners for their generous support over the years.
Go Hoosiers and FTK!
Before the tip-off at today's Indiana University Bloomington men’s basketball game, I had the honor of participating in the Indiana University Dance Marathon check presentation to Riley Children's Health. Together, we celebrated the incredible achievement of our IUDM students, who raised just over $3 million for the kids at Riley during last year's event while also reflecting on the remarkable 30+ year journey of IUDM, contributing over $50 million to make a difference in the lives of those who need it most.
Strategizing how to overcome donor fatigue can be difficult. The #SliceSquad had to get creative by finding a way to evoke emotion in audiences and make them take the next step to Converted Attention. Scroll through to see how we did it:
Rayze CEO, @carlnassib spoke at the Annual United Way of PA Conference. "The three day conference kicked off this morning with retired NFL player, Carl Nassib’s session discussing the strength and role of younger donorship. Carl created Rayze App, which uses positive social media to simplify the way we give back, in the form of volunteering and donations." Learn more about The United Way on Rayze, download now!
