In the wake of Jeff's post around reducing toxic polarisation, I find myself compelled to offer a different perspective. I think there's a critical point being missed: this isn't about polarisation, but about the relentless fight for equality and justice facing outright resistance. We're not dealing with mere differences of opinion; we're confronting systemic injustices that demand uncompromising action. Let’s be clear: when privileges are built on the oppression of others, calling out and dismantling those privileges isn't polarising—it's justice. The history of human rights movements is not one of polite compromises but of battles fought and won against entrenched systems of oppression. Comparing today's struggle for equality to historical fights against slavery, fascism, and for civil rights isn't an exaggeration—it's context. Those struggles weren't won by dialling down the rhetoric or softening the stance against oppressors. They were won by individuals and communities who stood firm, often at great personal risk, to challenge and change fundamentally unjust systems. We are at a similar juncture today with the fight for women's rights, racial equality, and LGBTQ+ rights. To suggest we temper our approach in calling out racism, sexism, equality and bigotry is to misunderstand the nature of these fights entirely. There is no middle ground when it comes to human rights. You're either fighting against oppression or you're enabling it. Being "less polarising" didn't end segregation or secure women's voting rights—action did. So, to those who are uncomfortable with the intensity of today's social justice movements: understand that this discomfort is a privilege in itself. It means you're not on the receiving end of the injustices being challenged. This is not the time for silence or compromise. It's the time for bold action and unequivocal support for the rights of the oppressed. We must continue to call out and stand against racism, sexism, bigotry, and specially social injustices and any form of discrimination with all the fervor and intensity these issues deserve.
Brilliant. Kudos to the folks at Heineken for putting this together. Reminds me of the excellent work StoryCorps is now doing with their One Small Step program that helps set up 1:1 interviews between people with differing perspectives. cc: Dave I.

Today is Robin's 17th birthday! 🎂 At Robin, we believe in sticking to our values every day. To celebrate, I asked my amazing team one question: What's one word that describes working at Robin? 🤔 The big answer? "Freedom." 🕊️ But what does having freedom and working remotely really mean? It's not just about being flexible, it's about having control and trust. It's the freedom to pick your hours, plan your day your way, and be there for your family when they need you, like looking after sick kids during the day and working later. Working remotely also means less stress. No more getting stuck in traffic or rushing to reach the office on time. Instead, we get to start our day calmly at home, which helps us focus better and get more done. With nearly 8 years of experience here, I've seen firsthand how remote work lets us mix our personal and work lives smoothly, so we can do well in both areas. It's proof of the trust and support we share in our Robin team. 💙 What does freedom at work mean to you?
Happy Birthday, Robin! Today, we celebrate 17 incredible years of Robin! With a team of 27 dedicated internal employees from different countries, alongside our invaluable external marketing team, we've been steadfastly working according to Robin's core values: personal, clean, complete, driven, and trust. Our mission remains clear: to facilitate borderless recruitment. Here's to many more years of success and growth! 🎂

Company Impressions on Top Talent Have Plummeted! This weekend, we welcomed a new goat to our herd. We carefully planned how we would introduce Rufus to his new environment and companions, ensuring a smooth and positive transition. Our goal was to make him feel at home right away. In the workforce, however, I’m seeing the opposite approach to onboarding top talent. More and more often, I hear from candidates within their first two weeks on the job saying, “I’ve made a terrible mistake!” Here are some examples of poor first impressions: *Their desk and computer aren’t set up, leaving them with no place to sit. *The rest of the team had no idea they were coming. *The group they’re managing hasn’t been informed about their new supervisor. *The hiring manager is unavailable for the entire week. After spending so much time recruiting top talent, it’s crucial to plan for their arrival and make them feel valued from day one. Proper onboarding makes all the difference. Just like Rufus, who settled in and made friends within a couple of days, your new hire will thrive if you take the time to ensure a positive start!

Yesterday my colleague Michael Kolawole MAAT and I had our bi-yearly offsite. With the fast paced nature of our roles, taking the time for an off-site wasn't just a break — it was a strategic move that we hope will impact our department's effectiveness. 3 key takeaway's we took away were: 1. Building Team Cohesion 😄 Off-sites help forge stronger relationships. By building on trust and knowing each other better, this will help us work together more effectively. 2. Strategic Focus 😎 Stepping away from daily tasks allowed us to align on big-picture goals and ensure we're moving in the same direction. 3. New Ideas 💡 A change of scenery can help. We came up with fresh ideas we're excited to put into action. Conclusion: Our off-site was a real chance for us to try and think outside the box and come up with new ideas as well as critiquing our existing ones. As with everything, the proof is in the pudding but we hope yesterday's offsite will help us grow and improve Marble's finance department. Highly recommend giving it a go!
