As an Executive Assistant, I believe that sometimes we get caught up in wanting to help and go above and beyond too much for our leaders. At the end of the day, we are still human beings with families, beloved animals, hobbies, and lives outside of work. Managers need to understand that just because they want to work at times that are outrageous for most, we should not be expected to be at their beck and call outside of the standard hours we are supposed to be working. And we should definitely not be held to a standard of raising the bar high only if we choose to set aside our kids, spouses, friends, and hobbies to drop what we are doing to answer questions, set a last-minute meetings, or help with a task that could wait until tomorrow. All Executive Assistants, learn to set boundaries, or you will continue to be taken advantage of. And all managers with Executive Assistants, understand that most of the time we are in this career because we love to help, but it should never come at the cost of our sanity, so please think of us as more than just someone here to assist you!
