A dispute has emerged between the Super Eagles players and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) over the sharing formula for the $4 million prize money awarded by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for reaching the 2023 AFCON final. The players are seeking a 30% share, equivalent to $1.2 million, while the NFF is offering 25%, which translates to $1 million. The disagreement has created a rift between the team and the football governing body, with the players insisting on their desired percentage. The NFF, however, is trying to negotiate a lower share, citing financial constraints and other expenses. This impasse may potentially affect team morale and preparations for future tournaments. The prize money sharing formula has become a contentious issue, with both parties holding firm on their demands. A mutually acceptable resolution is eagerly awaited to avoid further tension in Nigerian football.

While MCO’s are turning up the heat for clubs to be associated with corporate giants to ensure deeper talent pool amongst others including commercial gains, EPL has to prioritise the preferences of two main groups that make it as valuable as it is today - (1) the current fanatics that show a lot of importance for their heritage and FairPlay across the English football structure (top - down), (2) the growing participation of the younger generation seems to be more interested towards embracing traditions in order to feel a part of their history. The genz audience wants to keep with the traditions of football as it gives them a way to experience things that they haven’t seen or felt owing to modernisation. I believe the future is determined by the behaviour of the Genz audience as it’s likely that investors will not find adequate reason to go against the pulse of the market. From what I understand about English football or for that matter European league football, there is no better place for fans to be proud about their heritage than the leagues in Europe. The spirit of football is to allow for Competition & ensure FairPlay to the teams competing at lower tiers. Give them a chance to go for it and that’s crazy about Europe. It sets them apart from the American way of competing. Moreover, I don’t see the leagues in Europe not staying with the relegation rule owing to their increasing investment towards development down the funnel. The American investors are majorly invested in the PL clubs while having shares with other European clubs as well due to the promising ROR from their spending on PL club initiatives. Having said that, the EPL needs to find a way to create a balance in the benefits reaped commercially amongst other things from such American ownership and the game itself that gives the fans tremendous value being a part of their club & community (or city). #investing #footballfinance #premierleague #mco #americanownership #football #regulation #european #footballfans #englishfootball #genz #footballmarket

Between 2013 and 2018, Gambia failed to win a single competitive game. In the ten years before that, they won just nine. However, in the last few years, the smallest nation on Africa's mainland has qualified to two successive AFCONs, even reaching the quarter-finals in 2021. What sets apart Gambia’s journey compared to other African countries is not only its size, however, but also how - despite having a huge diaspora roughly comprised of 140,000 people - the majority of their squads (22/35 players selected for both tournaments) were developed locally. Boasting one of the most ambitious FAs in Africa, this study isn’t only about uncovering hidden trends in Gambian football, but rather an ode to one of the brightest examples of true football development we’ve seen in African football over the past decade-or-so.

Hammered? West Ham footballer Lucas Paquetá stands accused of deliberately picking up yellow cards in four Premier League matches by the Football Association.   Paquetá has strongly denied any wrongdoing and has vowed to clear his name in a post on social media after he was charged: "I am extremely surprised and upset that the FA has decided to charge me. For nine months I have cooperated with every step of their investigation and provided all the information I can. I deny the charges in their entirety and will fight with every breath to clear my name. Due to the ongoing process, I will not be providing any further comment."   Along with taking performance-enhancing drugs and throwing a match, placing bets based on a footballer's conduct on the pitch carries with it the prospect of a lifetime ban. This is what Paquetá has been charged with. Accordingly we might have anticipated a stronger reaction to the charges than being ‘extremely surprised’. A footballer might be extremely surprised to be substituted or dropped, but any innocent professional sportsman facing a potential lifetime ban from the only occupation they have had?   Paquetá has provided ‘all the information I can’ which leaves the question open as to what information he cannot provide. The answer is, clearly not enough to avoid the charges. ‘I deny the charges’ reveals that he cannot bring himself to state what they are, while the pledge to ‘fight with every breath’ is weak. His choice of defence appears to be free air rather than expensive lawyers.   What is missing from the statement is extremely revealing to Truth-Unlocked. There is no denial of placing bets, no denial of financial gain from the placing of such bets and no detail as to how he intends to defend himself against the charges.   We must highlight that Paquetá is a 26-year old Brazilian, who upon signing for West Ham in 2022, spoke some words in English. Therefore English is, at best, a second language for him, at worst a fourth, having previously played in Italy and France. Therefore it is likely that this statement was prepared and/or translated by a third-party bringing with it the usual caveats. They did their best by running on the field with all that shame and guilt. I really wanted to write an article trashing them, but what good would it have done? That is why I wrote something positive, just to give them a little hope the next time they run onto the field with PNG colors on. Quick question... If you were in their shoes, what would you need from your countrymen and women? Give thought to this question. Now think of our country as a family; if one of us fails at something, we support them. No matter what the cost, because that’s what family does! I do understand if you go against me, but I believe that our country can change, and the only way we do that is by having a positive mindset.
