Wendell Carter, Executive Vice President, Technology, Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. participated as a panelist at the 2024 AISTech Town Hall Forum. The theme of this year’s Forum was Sustainable Optimism. Wendell discussed Cliffs’ initiatives to decarbonize steel production and sustainability topics impacting the steel industry today.
The decarbonization of steel could go into making stronger concrete. By adding the carbon, less aggregate is used, we get rid of the carbon, and the concrete is stronger and cures in less time than conventional blends.
It's encouraging to see industry leaders like Wendell Carter engaging in discussions about sustainability and decarbonization efforts within the steel industry. It highlights a proactive approach towards addressing environmental challenges while maintaining a focus on innovation and growth.
I’m glad that Cliff’s bought AK Steel to re-establish appreciation for all of the employees rather than treating them as a number. I also hope Cliff’s is successful in acquiring US Steel rather than Nippon.
I heard it was the largest or one of the largest AISTech's ever and nothing but positives from the Town Hall after talking to many about it afterwards. 👍
Mr. Carter certainly has the experience and background to speak on the subject. But decarbonization of steelmaking is no small task. Basically, everything ahead of the caster involves carbon in one way or another. If major changes are required, then the whole steelmaking world would have to change.
This is great!!!
Would really like to see Cliffs keep US Steel American.
So Glad I was able to attend .. Good work !!
Wendell was great, lots of pertinent information and very technically knowledgeable!
