The academic lessons learned in school are just part of a much larger equation. Many of the lessons learned in school have little to do with grades. With each day of school, your child is developing and practicing social skills. No matter their age, it’s normal for kids to have a certain amount of nervousness — even anxiety — about school.🍎

The The New York Times highlighted in a recent article that the pandemic's youngest children are now in school - and they are struggling. Addressing this group of children, who are often developmentally and academically behind, we need to give teachers all the support we can. ALL learning begins with first learning emotional intelligence. An emotionally dysregulated child cannot learn, which is why Housman Institute is dedicated to providing tools to lay the groundwork for academic success - teaching children how to manage their big emotions. #preschool #earlychildhooddevelopment

Here are few questions that can be posed to a Class Teacher during a Parent Teacher Meeting which help a parent broaden his spectrum of knowledge about his Child: 1. Is there an individualized plan for my child's academic growth, and how is it being implemented? 2. What are my child's strengths and areas needing improvement in each subject? 3. How does my child participate and engage in class activities? 4. Can you provide examples of recent assessments and my child's results? 5. How consistent is my child with homework and assignments, and how can we support them at home? 6. How does my child interact with peers and teachers, and are there any social or behavioral concerns? 7. What additional support or resources are available if my child is struggling? 8. What are the academic goals for my child for the rest of the year, and how can we help prepare them for the next grade level?

Beating kids for academic struggles is harmful and ineffective. It creates fear, not understanding. When a child doesn't grasp a concept, it's our job to find better ways to teach, not punish. Schools should be safe spaces where mistakes are learning opportunities. Instead of punishment, use patience and diverse teaching methods. Our goal is to guide, not intimidate. Every child learns differently, and violence has no place in education. #parents #parentslife #school #education #educational #educationmatters #teachers #teachersupportteachers #teachersforteachers #teachershelpteachers #teachersinspireteachers #learning #learninganddevelopment #educationfirst #educationispower #parentsupport
