Integrity and authenticity. What do they have to do with spilling the tea? Alone, they are powerful. Together, they are a superpower. This post from Elfried Samba got me thinking about all the “tea” that spills out of that metaphorical mug. How do you talk about others when they aren’t in the room with you? (Random thought sparked by a coffee mug, I know.) What would company cultures look like if we practiced these values—integrity and authenticity—in unison? Imagine an environment full of honesty AND sincerity. Being authentic means dancing as though no one is watching, being 100% yourself. Integrity means doing what is right because it is right, not because it might be exposed at some point, revealing our true character. What kind of vibe would this superpowered “value stack” create if practiced across an organization or society? Would this create an environment where there is enough psychological safety for all of us to dance, even though others are watching? And, no matter how “good” or “bad” of a dancer we are, those around us wouldn’t take to the keyboards or talk about it when we aren’t around; they would talk about it WITH us. My wish of the day is for all of us to “dance” in unison. What do you think?

Hmmm... Interesting thought. An argument (counter to this) I've been making for some time has its basis in physics and the 1st law of thermodynamics... I posit that changing from "the wrong way" to "the right way" naturally takes work (i.e. expenditure of effort) because, if it didn't, it would have happened already! 😉 So - statistically - bad outcomes are more likely than good outcomes. With reference to Deming, it's the defective process that creates defective results. We need to practice getting better. #thepracticingprinciple
