To work in the games industry you need to... - Pick a specific job you want. More specific than Game Developer or Unity Developer. - Learn the skills needed for that job. - Show your skills with tools like your resume, LinkedIn profile and portfolio. - Learn to interview and sell yourself. This is not revolutionary information but we all like to over complicate things and chase the new hack to getting a job faster. Before you chase creative solutions to these problems, learn the fundamentals and stay consistent. This is how you become successful. Then once you have the fundamentals down (which are the steps bulleted above), then start getting creative with it. I look back at how I used to network, what my resume looked like, and even my LinkedIn profile. Compared to now it was cringy from my pov. But guess what, I still landed my first job with that less then optimal networking technique by being consistent and improving little by little. I also landed my second job with a less than optimal LinkedIn profile. Don't strive for perfection. Strive for progress. #jobseekers #jobsearch #gamedevelopment #unity #mindset #goals

Do you think it's ok to blatantly expect 12 professionals you haven't even talked to yet to complete a case study for you? If not, can we maybe start acknowledging the total and complete uselessness of test assignments and case studies for the majority of roles, especially for senior game designers? If your hiring manager is unable to assess my expertise during a talk (which can be structured in the form of the very same damn case study), then me completing an assignment that does not respect my time won't help them in any way. I've hired a fair share of game designers myself - and yes, in most cases a good talk is all it takes to know everything you need to about a candidate. And that thing below is just recruiting cancer that needs to go.

Look I am no Nostradamus here, okay...but Romero Games Ltd., posting open positions for a new FPS game. I think people beating Sigil 2 probably assumed that the mentioned Hellion was going to be a DOOM 2 WAD. But I consulted a team of scientists, and they are predicting that this is the new game Romero is making. Think about this - design principles similar to OG DOOM. That fast moving, enemy prioritizing, demon ridden goodness of old but new, and improved. Maybe if we are lucky, another Buckethead soundtrack. The FPS genre is no desert right now. It's booming with games and a whole new generation of pistol starting, circle strafing maniacs who are discovering not only the classics like Doom, but also their modern contemporaries - the DUSK's, Turbo Overkill's, Ion Fury's, Selaco's, Prodeus', Amid Evil's, Ultrakills, and Mullet Mad Jack's of the world. (Oh I'm sorry I can't name ALL the good FPS games from the past 10 years, LinkedIN doesn't have a two million character limit) So having one of the original king-shit's of the FPS, who is still making Doom WAD's with no super shotgun and eight thousand dickhead Cacodemons make a brand new FPS game in the time where these games have been nicknamed "boomer shooters" because 38 year olds like me are sitting and waiting for the next Eviternity or Sunlust to come out for our GZDOOM executables would be the absolute cherry on top of what I consider the new greatest era for the genre. Or I'm totally wrong and Hellion is another DOOM WAD, not that I'd be disappointed either way.
HIRING!! Romero Games has 31 job openings across various departments including Art, Code, Design, and Operations. Positions range from Associate Art Director and Senior Lighting Artist to Senior Unreal Shader Artist and Animator. The company emphasizes a collaborative and inclusive work environment, offering mentorship, career growth, ownership, and great benefits. Not sure where to go with your game dev job search? Ask yourself: What specific job do you want? (for example, Unity Mobile Game Developer) Does your portfolio, resume and linkedin profile all reflect that you are the person for that specific job? Are you applying for and networking with people at the companies with these jobs and similar jobs? If you’re not doing any of that, then there's your starting point. From there you will simply refine and repeat. Make a better resume, get better at networking, etc. #gamesindustry #growth #mindset #careercoaching

You are trying to get an Entry-Job in games but it's more difficult than expected? Well, same for me. But the good thing is we are in the same boat aren't we? 😉 So, hear me out and tell me what you think of my idea: Since none of us is perfect in ALL areas of game dev, why don't we just get together and build games together? Support each other and create outstanding games for our portfolios! 😎 I am looking for some passionate (no, not "talented" or something else, I don't care if you have ever done something with games before) artist, programmer, 3D-modeller, music creator, whatever you think you can contribute to make games together. What I have in mind: - no hierarchy in group, everyone's ideas welcome -> let's just create your dream game - mobile or desktop - fix meetings (let it be online) once a week - fun and passion & very important dedication 💥 #GameDevCollaboration #EntryLevelGameDev #IndieGameTeam #GameDevelopmentCommunity #GameDevNetworking #GameDevCollab #PassionateCreators #DreamGameProject #NoHierarchyGameDev #CreativeCollaboration #GameDevOpportunity #TeamBuildingInGameDev #DedicatedCreators #JoinTheGameDevJourney #GameDevTogether #WeeklyMeetings #BuildGamesTogether #CollaborativeGameDesign #PassionProjectGameDev #InclusiveGameDevelopment

Game Development is the art of creating games and describes the design, development and release of a game. It may involve concept generation, design, build, test and release. While you create a game, it is important to think about the game mechanics, rewards, player engagement and level design. A game developer could be a programmer, a sound designer, an artist, a designer or many other roles available in the industry. Game Development can be undertaken by a large Game Development Studio or by a single individual. It can be as small or large as you like. As long as it lets the player interact with content and is able to manipulate the game’s elements, you can call it a ‘game’. #snsinstitutions #snsdesignthinking #snsdesignthinkers #gamedevelopment
