Why your AI Chatbots are too basic to be really useful. In my conversations with various companies, there's a growing interest in deploying chatbots for customer support, touted bots as the latest efficiency hack. However, my research has led me to a startling realization: the majority of today's chatbots are far from the revolutionary tools they're often portrayed to be. Instead, they resemble more closely the capabilities of automated FAQ systems. They lack the sophistication and nuanced understanding that advanced AI platforms like ChatGPT offer, which have redefined interaction standards and problem-solving standards. Today's Chatbot Reality: Current standard chatbots typically offer functional yet unremarkable service. They're adept at reciting policies and, at their best, collecting just enough information to pass on to a human colleague. This level of service is akin to an AI middleman, capable of basic nods and paper shuffling but not much else. While this represents a step towards operational efficiency, it's far from a groundbreaking development. Bottom line - you feel like you're talking to a bot. The Ideal Chatbot Vision: Imagine a chatbot that shatters these limitations, embodying a ChatGPT-like leap in customer support. Picture an AI agent that doesn’t just comprehend customer queries but responds with autonomy and intelligence. We're talking about a chatbot that can autonomously place orders, handle repairs, and even make informed judgment calls, all tailored to your specific business rules. Such a bot would actively assess needs, initiate solutions, and seek human help only when absolutely necessary. This is the transformation of chatbots from rudimentary tools to strategic, business-enhancing assets. Right now we’re working on this for one of my commerce clients and I'll be sharing it with you all for a test drive soon. The goal of incorporating a 'chatbot' or AI into any business case is to help reduce the time it takes human to do that task while doing that task better. I am coding this bot with the capabilities of looking up orders, inventory, customer info, then making decisions based on company policies, and autonomously processing a customer's requests if they fit the allowed actions and rules.
