Ever wondered how to determine the optimal size for your pickleball club? To optimize club size, keep 3 factors in mind: 1️⃣ Local Supply 2️⃣ Staffing Considerations 3️⃣ Cost Considerations Use basic assumptions to size the market. For example: ✅ A Pickleball Club with 10 courts ✅ Operating 12 hours/day, 7 days/week gives 840 available hours ✅ With 2-hour reservations and 4 players per session, achieving full capacity means 1680 player sessions weekly ✅ At 1.68 weekly sessions per player on average, 1,000 players are required per week for 100% utilization Each input can be modified to help think about what is required to succeed and plausibility relative to existing local supply and project budget. There is no one-size-fits-all answer, but determining club size is a threshold strategic decision. Pickleball is outgrowing its available court space. • In 2022, the total number of first-time pickleball participants alone exceeded the total number of players in 2021. • For continued growth at the same pace, the industry requires a $900M investment to build 25K courts nationwide, per SFIA. • 74% of US community associations have or are building pickleball courts, with 76% of members reporting courts are in near-constant use, according to CAI. Fortunately, as the sport’s frenetic growth continues, dedicated venues are getting fast-tracked. Watch for clubs like Ace Pickleball Club or recreation x restaurants concepts like Camp Pickle and Chicken N Pickle to pop up in a neighborhood near you. Meanwhile, gym operator Life Time Inc. has constructed five indoor and outdoor pickleball courts per week since 2022, with no sign of slowing down.
