Recently, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services solidified its commitment to finalize its’ nursing home staffing mandate. The current CMS proposal advocates for Medicare and Medicaid-certified long-term care homes to deliver a minimum of 3 hours of care from a nurse or nurse aide per resident daily. For already understaffed homes this will be a large challenge to overcome, not to mention the stress this will put on care teams. One way to help focus staff time on direct care is to automate repetitive, manual tasks like outreach. The federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently proposed that nursing homes provide at least three hours of staff time daily for every patient/resident. CMS believes the increased staffing will lower annual Medicare medical costs since it assumes better staffing will reduce hospital care. While some states already have tougher requirements, some 75% of nursing homes would need to add staffing to reach even the proposed compliance levels - many of which still struggle with hiring and high turnover rates. https://bit.ly/3PWzd6G
