☀ One month ago we had our first Sunshine Story Webinar: Indigenous-led Energy Transition Across Turtle Island, in Collaboration with Climate Action Network Canada and Sacred Earth Solar. Sacred Earth Solar’s and the Indigenous communities’ they have worked with stories’ demonstrate the importance of centring decolonisation work in the energy transition. They contextualise the personal experience, demonstrating the historic violence committed by both the state and corporations. The work Sacred Earth Solar does emphasises the importance of understanding the complexity of achieving a just and equitable transition. In so-called Canada, Indigenous communities are the largest asset owners of clean energy after utilities. The energy transition in the region has been led by Indigenous communities, through centring their voices we can better understand how they have achieved this, where they have struggled and where they have succeeded ✊ 👩💻 You can read our latest blog from the webinar here on our website 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dYh3DMrj You can watch the full webinar on our YouTube Channel 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eUsZAfPu You can find out more about the work Sacred Earth Solar does on their website 🔗 https://sacredearth.solar/

Our communities haven’t been centred nearly enough in the energy transition and this is a moment to do it differently. When really genuine engagement and consent of First Nations communities is done well, the projects actually look considerably different, they can benefit communities, and they can be sustainable for generations to come. That’s Karrina Nolan talking, co-chair of the First Nations Clean Energy Network who is speaking this week at the 24th World Energy Congress in Rotterdam. She’s being joined there by Melina Laboucan-Massimo of Sacred Earth Solar who says in so-called Canada, there is currently close to 3000 Indigenous-led projects from small to medium size and up to 300 large scale revenue-generating projects that have Indigenous participation and Indigenous ownership. Melina says what renewable energy is bringing to Indigenous communities is an energy sovereignty and energy security they had not seen before. 'That’s why we see such an uptake because it really allows Indigenous communities to lead the way out of the climate crisis ideally and to be more resilient in the face of the climate crisis.' You can listen to more from Karrina and Melina in this interview by Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) produced by Chris Bullock.

💡 Earth Hour 2024: We’re In 🌏 Today, we’re participating in Earth Hour from 8:30pm to 9:30pm, we’ll dim the lights and join millions worldwide in a symbolic stand for our planet. What does that have to do with the All-Electric Society? 𝐑𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐄𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐃𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐝: By turning off lights during Earth Hour, we contribute to energy conservation. In an All-Electric Society, every kilowatt-hour matters. By 2030, our Net Zero Factory in Bad Pyrmont will be a model of electrification, showcasing the power of energy conservation. 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐑𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐄𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲: As Earth Hour inspires us to embrace clean energy sources like solar and wind, our charging stations at Bad Pyrmont exemplify our commitment to a sustainable energy future. Our efforts to boost sustainable energy are also reflected in our solar power generation, which already accounts for 15% of the site’s electricity demand. 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Our commitment during Earth Hour echoes our commitment to combat climate change. An All-Electric Society aligns with this mission. Join us! Let’s make Earth Hour a powerful reminder of our responsibility to protect our planet and transition toward a greener, electrified future. #EarthHour #ClimateAction #Sustainability #AllElectricSociety

At JE, we promise to protect the environment for future generations. On Saturday, March 23rd, 2024, we will be participating in Earth Hour. This global initiative encourages everyone to switch off non-essential lights and appliances for one hour at 8:30 pm (local time). By doing so, we hope to raise awareness about climate change and energy conservation. We are proud to update you that our dedication to renewable energy has doubled this year, reaching an impressive 42% usage. We already reached and exceeded our goal of reducing carbon emissions by 42% by 2023. Moving forward, we are setting new targets for reducing Scope 1, 2, and 3 carbon emissions in line with the Science Based Targets Initiative. Let’s make Earth Hour more than just a symbolic gesture. Join us on March 23rd, switch off the lights, and be part of the global movement to protect our Earth. #JE #JohnsonElectric #JEEarthHour #RenewableEnergy #EarthHour #Sustainability

This is Valencia's Municipal Energy Office, a one-stop shop where citizens can get personalised advice about their energy bills. They can also find out more about renewable energy projects such as energy communities and their city's climate transition. Valencia is this year's European Green Capital and it really deserves the title. The City and its inspiring employees are working towards climate neutrality by putting their citizens at the forefront and ensuring a just transition for all. Back to my reality, more than 50% of the Greek households have reduced other essentials in favor of energy needs. So imagine how useful and impactful such a service would this - the City of Athens is about to launch a similar service, let's advocate for many many more energy offices in our Municipalities. #energypoverty #energypolicy #climateresilience

65% of the world’s wind generation capacity is installed in China and although such data seems normal given the size of the country it should not worry anyone there is another fact that should move the West to caution at the very least or, directly, to the decision to reactivate the industrial potential of Europe and America as soon as possible. April 22: the 54th annual Earth Day 🌍 The organizers of the first celebration in 1970 wouldn't likely give our progress top marks. And yet: 📈 The renewable energy sector has grown exponentially. ⚡️ Our home country of Germany ran on 56% clean power in 2023, and more and more places on Earth are tracking days or weeks running on 100% renewables. 💚 More people than ever, according to the latest surveys, are not just aware of climate change but urgently want their political leaders to act to stop it. Environmentalism remains a powerful movement—and not about to give up. We're proud to be a part of it. #EarthDay #EarthDay2024 #sustainability #renewableenergy #environmentalism #climatechange #erneuerbareenergien #klima
