The city of Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Spain, is increasing cycling participation among residents. Leading the project is Simon Alvarez Belon, Program Manager at Bicycle Mayor Network BYCS. “In this metropolitan region, 93% of all journeys cover less than ten kilometres, making bicycles and e-bikes a great alternative.”🚴 Practical initiatives such as women-led trainings, free bike repair sessions and intermodal workshops aim to further boost the uptake of cycling. We are proud to collaborate with FedEx to support Santa Coloma through the Sustainable Cities Mobility Challenge. Together, we’re helping cities transition to cleaner, greener and more inclusive transport. 📣 The Sustainable Cities Mobility Challenge has launched - AGAIN! For the third year running, EIT Climate-KIC and FedEx are helping European cities implement local solutions to promote sustainable and inclusive mobility. The programme has already funded 9 impactful city projects—including the inspiring work of Ajuntament Santa Coloma de Gramenet. I had the privilege of speaking with their project lead, Simon Alvarez Belon, to learn how this Barcelona suburb is transforming mobility by encouraging more people to trade their car keys for bicycle rides. 🚴 Check it out 👇

Sunday rides or daily convenience? 🚲 ☀ 🌆 Making our European cities more bike-friendly has been a growing trend in recent years, with cities like Copenhagen and Amsterdam leading the way in promoting sustainable transportation and becoming the gold standard. It is evident that major financial efforts need to happen in the #UrbanPlanning process, but the main shift should be in the everyday, convenient aspect of riding a bicycle. According to the European Cyclists' Federation, 21 major European cities have made significant strides in making cycling more convenient than driving, but how well are we responding daily? In Spain, despite the Spanish government's investment of €1.5 billion to support municipalities' green mobility schemes between 2021 and 2022, the number of people who prefer cycling as their daily mode of transport remains relatively low, with only 3% of the population claiming it as their preferred choice. We realize that it is important to foster a culture that values and encourages cycling as a sustainable and efficient mode of transportation. By taking a holistic approach to promoting cycling in our cities, we can create a more sustainable and livable urban environment that benefits both individuals and the community as a whole. #BikeFriendlyCities #SustainableTransportation #ClimateAction #EuropeanCities

CELEBRATING EUROPEAN MOBILITY WEEK 🚴♂️ European Mobility Week starts next week! 🚴♀️ From September 16th to 22nd, we are celebrating this event that promotes sustainable urban transport. As a bike manufacturer and cycling enthusiasts, we couldn’t let this week pass unnoticed. This year's theme, "Our Shared Space," highlights the importance of fair allocation of public space, which means fewer cars and more room for pedestrians, cyclists, and public transport. 🚶♂️🚲 In cities that respect everyone’s needs, the air is cleaner, noise levels are lower, and the quality of life is better. Join us in embracing this week and especially the Car-Free Day on September 22nd by experiencing urban mobility differently. Walk more, use public transport, hop on a bike or a scooter. Whether it’s to work, school, or just for fun, you may find that your car can comfortably stay in the garage.👍 Your health will thank you, and so will the planet. 🌍💚 #EuropeanMobilityWeek #BeanyBikes #BestKidsBikes #SustainableTransport

This month, let’s go on foot or by bike! 🚶♂️🚴♀️ Did you know that in 2021, Slovenians cycled over 216 million kilometers – which is 40% more than in 2017? 🚴♂️🌿 Cycling is not only a great way to stay active but also an opportunity to contribute to a cleaner environment. In the Municipality of Postojna, we’ve made it even easier with our POSbikes system, offering simple bike rentals. Instead of driving across town, hop on a bike! It’s a great way to reduce traffic and improve your health at the same time. 🌍♻️🚲💚 Additionally, by participating in the ArtMED project, the Municipality is working on solutions for on-demand mobility, especially for those living in the surrounding areas of Postojna. Together, we can do more! 💪🚴♀️ The ArtMED project is part of the Interreg Euro-MED Programme and is co-financed by the European Union. samo1planet | care4climate #EuropeanMobilityWeek #SustainableMobility #ActiveMobility #POSbikes #CyclingNation #ArtMED
