🏢 Buildings are central to an effective, resilient, and just net zero transition for cities. 💨 They are responsible for 37% of global energy-related greenhouse gas emissions globally, the third highest sector after electricity and heat, and transport. This report offers initial findings on the general challenges and mechanisms behind the transition towards a net zero carbon buildings sector. That's exactly why, though I may put the % between brackets, moving towards green buildings accredited guidelines, frameworks and rating systems, as well as certifying green buildings and projects, is considered a big step towards net zero transition for cities. #GreenBuildings #LEED #BREEAM #MOSTADAM #SUSTAINABLECITIES #GREENcities #GreenBuildings #ClimateChange #NetZero

#Cities play an integral role in achieving #ClimateNeutrality targets. On a global level, cities account for 65% of energy consumption and more than 70% of CO2 emissions. In the EU, cities take up just 4% of land area but they will house up to 85% of its residents by 2050. 👇 https://lnkd.in/dDs6NjQZ

Introducing the "2050 building" - designed to be a good grid citizen! This electrified building is built to be carbon-neutral as soon as electrical grids achieve carbon neutrality. It's energy-efficient and designed to have low winter and summer peaks, which are the times of greatest stress for the grid. Plus, it monitors its energy performance, stores energy on-site, and minimizes GHG emissions from refrigerants. A great step towards a more sustainable future! #sustainability #carbonneutrality #energyefficiency

The below post is a bit like having the cities stand height wise. With this data in public domain, following thoughts come up for me. There are going to be pros and cons at any place with intense activity. 💡Is there any benchmark these levels are being compared to which these cities should target to reach? 🤔 Is there any repercussion to this particular characteristic of high emissions that is the proven cause of some impact common to all 10 cities that must be addressed in a way that attacks the problem itself as well as cuts down emissions? ❓️What is the end game here? While having this data is great, it seems a bit open to interpretation and imagination (or unscientific bias) of the reader. #UNHabitat #ClimateChange #SustainableCities #CarbonEmissions #SustainableDevelopment
Cities are a key contributor to climate change. Estimates suggest that urban areas are responsible for 70% of global CO2 emissions, with transport and buildings being among the largest contributors (IPCC, 2022) Cities are an integral part of the solution in fighting climate change. Many cities are already doing a lot but there is a clear need for our cities to take bold steps to reduce their carbon footprint through sustainable practices like renewable energy, green infrastructure, and efficient public transport. It's worth noting, however, that there is a significant variance in how cities report their emissions. For example, U.S. cities tend to under-report their GHG emissions by an average of 18.3% due to omissions of certain fuels and sources (Gurney et al., 2021) Through coordinated action at the global, regional, national and local levels, we can create a sustainable future for our cities. #ClimateAction #SustainableCities
