A carbon-negative country is one that removes more carbon dioxide from the atmosphere than it emits. This can be achieved through various means such as reforestation, carbon capture technologies, renewable energy adoption, and sustainable land management practices. While no country has achieved complete carbon negativity yet, several are actively working towards it through ambitious climate action plans and policies.

The renewable transition is an opportunity for all of us - no matter how much we earn, or whether we rent or own our home - to enjoy cheaper, cleaner energy for years to come. That's the message Better Climate took to state and federal decision makers in Canberra last week, along with our allies in unions, industry groups, First Nations groups, and other NGOs as part of the Renew Australia For All coalition. Another problem with Carbon Capture, which Michael Barnard anticipated: Wyoming Considers Relaxing Its Carbon Capture Standards for Electric Utilities, Scrambling Political Alliances on Climate Change and Energy A bill lowering the amount of CO2 a utility must capture at its power plants has drawn opposition from two groups usually diametrically opposed to each other’s priorities—environmentalists and climate change skeptics. As Wyoming nears the end of its 2024 legislative session, clean energy advocates and climate change skeptics find themselves in an uneasy situation: an alliance. Both groups oppose legislation that would weaken and delay the state’s carbon capture requirements, albeit for wildly different reasons. https://lnkd.in/gnn5EKHC

Really looking forward to this terrifically relevant event tomorrow (in Concord, Mass) on building - as rapidly as possible - our new modernized renewable electric grid without excluding key stakeholders and repeating past injustices. https://lnkd.in/eKYQgvPn
How do we build the renewable distributed electric grid we need quickly, while not repeating the mistakes of the past? With this event - both in-person in Concord, MA or online, Saturday at 2pm - we're partnering with the Massachusetts Environmental Justice Table to learn about centering frontline communities in the fight against the climate crisis. #EnvironmentalJustice #ClimateCrisis https://lnkd.in/e8APqBh9

What are the most effective ways to address climate change? Our two co-founders, Robert Metcalfe and Robert Hahn, have co-authored a paper analysing nearly 100 environmental policy changes by the US government over the last 25 years to answer this question. Their key findings: → Subsidies for renewable energy generation, such as wind and solar, have the greatest “bang for their buck” → Nudges to reduce energy consumption have more value when targeted to regions with a dirty electric grid compared to areas with cleaner grids → Fuel taxes and cap-and-trade policies are highly efficient means of raising revenue → International climate subsidies have the potential to produce very high returns → Typical measures of cost effectiveness such as “cost per ton of CO2 abated” do not account for the full sets of benefits and costs of climate policy Read the full paper here - https://lnkd.in/eh4gCRzV

Rarely do I find an Op-Ed that so clearly crystalizes the megalomanic hubris of Trump, and how it will negatively impact our nation's and the world's environmental health as the attached Op-Ed does. Bottom Line: Trump is a vindictive megalomaniac who makes many decisions based on his bruised ego, rather than the facts of a situation. This is particularly evident in his opposition to wind turbines. #votebiden2024 #savetheenvironment https://lnkd.in/gfvfFduK

Are global climate policies enough? 🌍 A study of over 1,500 climate policies across 41 countries shows mixed results. While successes like the UK’s carbon pricing and Germany’s renewable energy expansion stand out, major gaps remain in the industry and transport sectors. The key? Policy integration—combining carbon pricing with renewable mandates. But current efforts fall short of meeting global climate goals. 📖 Read Jorge L. Hurtado, PhD full report for insights on what’s working, what isn’t, and where we need to go next. 🔗https://lnkd.in/dzrwV33i #ClimateChange #Sustainability #ClimatePolicy #PreScouter
