🌍 CFS-52: The Committee on World Food Security (CFS) is the leading global platform on food security and nutrition, aimed at fostering dialogue and driving concrete actions to eliminate hunger and promote equitable and sustainable food systems. During the first plenary session, the representative of Kuwait unequivocally condemned the ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people by the Israeli government. He also highlighted Israel’s responsibility for acts of terrorism in Lebanon and the violence destabilizing Yemen and Syria, further underscoring the regional impact of these actions. His remarks were met with a long, significant round of applause, reflecting the growing international recognition of these grave human rights violations. This promises to be an important and impactful week for global food security. According to the World Food Programme (WFP) Food insecurity is a serious issue in the English and Dutch-speaking Caribbean, with around 3 million people facing moderate to severe food insecurity. Due to challenges like over-dependence on imports, financial downturn, global conflicts, and climate impacts, 43% of the region is now classified as moderately or severely food insecure. The seventh Caribbean Food Security and Livelihoods Survey by CARICOM and #WFP_CARIBBEAN sheds light on the region's experiences with food security, market access, and income in April 2024.
