Excited to introduce- S-CAPs (Supply Chain Climate Action Plans in Food Systems) in the TIME Ideas op-ed. Vice President Kamala Harris talked about controlling grocery inflation- Extreme weather is one of the culprits missing from the discussion. The op-ed questions the existing approaches to food security and highlights: 1. Why Americans should care about climate disasters abroad. 2. We focus too much on long-term trends, but the real culprit is the increased volatility of extreme weather due to climate change, which increases the price of some premium foods. 3. The America-first approach, or the CHIPS Act, will not help secure the U.S. food supply chains. Food protectionism will hurt everyone, including the countries that think they benefit from it. 4. The World Bank and/or World Trade Organization can house this initiative with the private sector.
