Results of EU parliamentary elections are in, and green parties are facing a reckoning. Support for green parties is on the decline in many European countries, but according to Julio Friedmann, this is not the end of climate action in Europe: “The open question is what is the impact associated with this? I personally do not believe that we are going to see backsliding. I think the policies that exist are going to stay. Even though the Greens got hit pretty hard, the center left parties did pretty well. It is also the case that what people would call nationalist or far right parties gained ground. They do not have a majority. They did not dominate everything. It is true that it will make it harder to pass new laws.” [00:45] Read the full article below:

So, The Greens have taken a drubbing in the EU elections with support almost halving in Germany and France since 2019 😐 In short, the Green Deal is perceived as a Brussels-led agenda that seeks to impose unfair climate policies that hit poor households the hardest. This all feeds back to my recent talking points: 🌳 There will be no green transition without a Just Transition 🌳 Enact some form of carbon fee and dividend scheme to help people with the costs of decarbonisation 🌳 Start communicating in a way that resonates more intuitively with people outside the climate bubble 🌳 Stop demonising people with different political opinions and values (and don’t just stop doing it, stop thinking it) 🌳 Actively seek opportunities for reconciliation between different social and political groups, as this is the only way climate action will scale Earth will thank you for it 💚 🌍 https://lnkd.in/emrik_Nt

While the UK has been getting ready for a highly anticipated general election, the EU has been busy with its own European Parliament vote. Continent-wide losses for green parties and a potential Labour victory at home could mean the UK and EU are once again pulling in different directions. Use your EU-vote against the Clexit!✅ On the 6th of June, we will be voting for the European Parliament—a crucial moment that will shape our sustainable future. In many aspects, the European Union is making significant progress in climate policies. The adoption of the Green Deal and its associated initiatives is yielding positive results. What have they accomplished thus far? 👍The EU has already reduced carbon emissions by 32% since 1990! 👍The implementation of a carbon price on imports from carbon-intensive industries. 👍Ban on single-use plastics And much more! For a sustainable economy and a healthy environment, we need a robust European coalition. However, polls indicate a strong shift towards the right, whose policies are not aligned with climate action. This significant shift to the right could lead to anti-climate policies dominating the parliament, resulting in a backlash for our climate ambitions. This could mean: 🛑Undermining the Green Deal framework. 🛑Weakening the targets for achieving a net-zero economy by 2050. 🛑Postponement of the Nature Restoration law Nevertheless, experts suggest that the majority of voters still support ambitious climate policies. Go use your vote, and avoid the next exit: climate exit! #useyourvote #euelections #thegreendeal #voteagainstclexit
